1970's Fiat 850S

Shifting from 1st to 2nd is smooth. So is all other changes.
But going from 2nd to 1st has to be done with caution.
I have a technique now, but i would like to have it smooth as the other changes.

What could be the fault here?
I have inspected the Gearshift linkage under the car. It seems fine.

Some classic cars don't have syncromesh in first gear or reverse ..my old morris minor was like that ...to select first or reverse you had to stop ...or double de-clutch ...I hope this helps ...

I agree, i only ever use first once i have stopped as second can be used from any point when you are still moving.
