Have been researching on how to replace the rear brake discs and pads.

What is the best process? as I have seen a few USA YouTube videos of the sister car Jeep Renegade being done, but these Renegades have the brake maintenance mode in their Uconnect in the settings and do not need multiecuscan.

Also some Italian videos of the 500x where the electric motors are removed from the calipers and a splined tool used to rotate this shaft clockwise so that the piston on the other side of the caliper can be compressed back in with the caliper piston tool.

Or is there another process for UK owners with or without the need for Multiecuscan for maintenance mode for the brakes?
 
I must admit I haven't looked at my 500x but looking at the user manual there should be a service mode for the ebrake

Ideally you need to use a diagnostic tool to release the parking brakes with the wheels chocked obviously


You should then be able to wind the calipers in like you would any other car

So what you are saying, is use multiecuscan to go into maintenance mode, while the EPB is not engaged and put in gear / chock front wheels?
 
Changed the rear brake discs and pads.

My procedure:
1. EPB not engaged after engine stop. Left in 1st gear.
2. Front wheels chocked.
3. Rear of car on axle stands.
4. Wheels removed.
5. Caliper removed and hung with a cable tie off the springs.
6. Caliper housing removed to allow removal of discs.
7. The EPB actuator is fitted to the hydraulic part of the caliper. I watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdEo8hCBTRQ on the actuator removal and the piston to be wound in, I did not use a wrench, but proper wind in tool.
8. After caliper cleaned and the new shims fitted with the pads all boxed up.
9. When rebuilt the pads had clearance to the new disc.
10. Turned ignition key to MAR, pumped brake pedal, engaged the EFB, the clearance of the pads to the disc where zero and noticeable caliper piston had moved.
11. Wheels on etc etc.
12. Test drive completed and tested EPB on a hill, perfect, no roll back.

It seems Renegades have more Uconnect options than 500X, considering they are heavily related, case in point : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGCJEN2Ug1I which made wanting to do it myself.

I've done a DIY for this. Several months have gone by and everything works fine.

The PDF has photos.

I found that the following procedure released the electronic brake.
I haven't got round to actually replacing discs and pads yet so don't know if this fully winds back the piston or not.

1. Put car in first gear and chock the wheels.
2. Without depressing the clutch, press the start button to turn on the ignition.
3. While pressing the foot brake, press and hold the brake release button and let the brakes unwind.
4, Keeping the foot brake depressed and the electronic brake lever pressed (in the release position), switch the ignition off.

Does this work for all 500x with electronic parking brake?

We'll do this job soon after we finished installing the shocks and mud tires on the Wrangler this week.
