The lights indicating what mode you are in don't light up anymore, I can still select between the modes, not a big deal, but I presume there is a bulb under there somewhere, has anyone ever replaced it, I have no clue how to remove the switch or if there is a bulb or if it's just a fault with the knob, has anyone come across this?

First of all check that your "Back Lighting" adjustment wheel (far right) has not been accidentally adjusted down.

Now for a little more tech info:

--------------------------------
Backlighting and compartment lighting.
The Body Computer (BCM) also manages the activation and, consequently, dimming of the backlighting on the following components:
dashboard
central tunnel
door panel switch module
steering wheel controls

this includes the DSU (Drive Selector Unit) aka Drive Mode.

Dimming is managed by the BCM via a small control wheel beside the exterior light control knob.
-----------------------------------------

All the above are technically referred to as/controlled as: "Night Lighting Components"

Components in this control group are:

CSS – (Central Stack Switch – Group of central switches on dashboard.)
HLS – (Headlamp Switch) Exterior light/dimming control switch unit.
CL – (Cigarette Lighter) Cigar lighter light.
DSU – (Dynamic Selector Unit) dynamic selector. (aka DRIVE MODE!!!)
MCU – (Media Connectivity Unit) USB port.
FCLU – (Front Light Ceiling Light Unit) front central roof light night lights.

There are other components but if you check the above items and there are all working OK then I would conclude that the fault/bulb failure is isolated to the DSU/Drive Mode switch.

Looking specifically at the DSU it looks like it has 3 LEDs.

LED 1 (auto mode) is lit autonomously by the DSU selector when LEDs 2 (Traction; All Weather) and LED 3 (Sport) are off.

LEDs 2 and 3 are lit by a Body Computer BCM command, while LED 1 is lit by
the internal electronics of the dynamic selector.

With all the above and then IF NONE of the LED's for the selected modes then this means that the fault is not in an individual LED.

Looking at the schematic for the DSU the Model Selection is a toggle to ground to changes modes. ALL the LEDs 3 for mode indication and 6 for backlighting) are supplied by a SINLGE 15V feed. These are then switched/control by the Body Computer.

So with all this in mind then if you have no mode indicator LEDs and no backlighting LEDs then the fault is in the +15V supply. Checking the other items I listed for backlighting etc. will help diagnose if this is a general power supply for all or just for the DSU.

Thank you S130 very helpful, all the other back lights work, and dim up and down, When toggling say to the right, it used to stop when it got to the mode there to the right of center, now it continues to cycle through each of them if that makes sense, is that normal, maybe someone can try theirs, I'm thinking its an issue to the switch, is there a way to get to it without dismantling the whole console, it's only a minor issue so not too worried really but it would be nice if I could get it to light up again,

Mine toggles "round the clock". eg if I go anti-clockwise it will go from Auto to Sport to Traction to Auto to Sport etc. Reverse going to the right. This is also what is documented in the 2015 Owner's manual.

e.g. For Sport Mode Selection

Starting from the active "Auto" mode, turn the ring nut anticlockwise, keeping
it in this position for at least half a second, and in any case until the
relevant LED turns on, and the selected mode is shown on the display. The
LED for the previously set mode will simultaneously turn off. Upon release,
the ring nut will return to the central position.

Starting from the active "Traction/All Weather" mode, turn the ring nut
clockwise, keeping it in this position for at least half a second, and in any case
until the relevant LED turns on, and the selected mode is shown on the
display. The LED for the previously set mode will simultaneously turn off. Upon
release, the ring nut will return to the central position.

If the other lights are working then this does see like you have lost the +15V feed to the DSU. This could be a loose connection at the DSU itself, internal dry solder joint on connector or an issue further up the line (so to speak).

I'll have a look to see if I can find where the DSU power feed comes from but now we are getting into the realms of "opening things up/removing".

I was thinking about my original post last night and the internal lighting dimmer wheel has nothing to do with the DSU operation. Sorry if that confused you.

OK. The DSU +15V comes directly from the Body Computer on Connector G-Pin8. This is fused by Fuse F51-7.5A on the body computer itself.

Fuse F51 also supplies: INT for A/C compress., heated rear window, door mirror defrosting, reversing switch, heated diesel filter, brake switch (NC), climate control unit, headlight alignment corrector, LDW, rear camera, heated front seats and steering wheel, DSU, radio set-up. NOTE! This must be for the light/low current supply only and not for say the actual currents required to power the heaters etc.

My mode selector doesn't light up whatsoever. I also occasionally get false messages like "backup light out" even though they do in fact still work. Something is definitely up with the electronics. I just wish I knew how to fix it myself as the shops can be quite expensive

On my 500X (UK 2015) the mode selector lights / LEDs are VERY faint. Difficult to see in daylight. They are also very small, 3mm by 2mm approx. There is (as far as I recall) no overall backlight but I could be wrong on this.

My 500X has "ambiance" lighting but not all 500Xs have this.

Mine does have ambient lighting which I totally love, but yeah I mean the switch replacement is $80. The selector works as far as selecting modes at least. Ah well. My fiat has some amateurs workarounds and jury rigging with them front bumper. One day I'll get it fully replaced and looking like new. But, I can ignore lack of selector lighting at least.
