Hi Friends. My name is Alessandro and i live in sweden, my english is a little bit bad but i hope you can understand me .

Recently when i start my Fiat 500X and when its cold outside "under -10C" the idle on the car is a little bit high and the engine sounds is very high and rough. The problem dissapears when the engine is back to normal temperature.

Best Regards

The motor starts Well but the rpm is high when its cold, RPM about 1300 and the car sounds different and its vibrating intill the engine is warm.

Its 4500 Km with the 4X sparkplugs.

Can it be the engine mount that is bad?

I can show you the picture

1200rpm is not unusual with a COLD start

It will be interesting to see what a mechanic discovers..

Do you have access to a more sheltered location? To try something..
I would be interested if it was smoother if the cars 1st start of the day was at +5..or even 0'c

When i use my engine Warmer to warm up the engine in the Night the cAr goes smooth. The mechanic are goding to repair the ambient sensor, then at the same time i Will Ask him to check this problem.

You have a faulty ambient temperature sensor? A common problem. Could that not be the cause of your cold start issues?

Its a possibility..

But I would think the coolant temp would drive the fuelling to more of an extent than something mounted in the door mirror

Time will tell

The sensor in the mirror controls the AC etc, it just seemed logical to me that, at the point of firing up, it might also tell the ECU what the temperature is to enable mixture etc to be set accordingly

Conversely..

When my old mirror got wiped off.. the dash display read -20..

It had no effect on the running.. but that was older tech..

Time will tell what is found here :)

I can only compare it to my own experience when the mirror sensor failed and showed the outside temperature as +30 with a frost on the ground and the AC kept trying to cool the cabin down.

I also had a faulty sensor in the Common Rail which told the ECU the wrong temperature and that DID affect the running but that was a diesel engine. I have no idea if this engine has the equivalent sensor.

Thank you all for a good discussion. When i take the car to the mechanic i Will tell you what the problem was. :)

There usually a separate temp sensor often built into the map Sensor for intake air temps

I can't keep up with all these sensors, the one I had go down in the Common Rail was presumably monitoring fuel temperature, and I wouldn't have known about that if it hadn't gone wrong

Another thing is that the car is vibrating in idle when its very cold outside when the engine is cold. It happend when the temp was -18 here in sweden. But i Will tell you all when the car is fixed :)

That's partly my point. When mine went wrong it ticked over like an old tractor until it was up to normal temperature, but mine was a diesel, so I don't know if yours could have the same problem.

A Mechanic Will check the problem next week. Got another problem now is that my EPB is stuck and i cant drive my car and the dashboard went crazy on warningsignal. :( this is stressfull.

Hi Guys.

I got my car back after 2 Weeks.

The Mechanic Said the car goes fine and there is no wrong code or anything wrong with the system or engine, so i have to live that the car has high RPM and sounds a little bit like a tractor on Cold starts.

The ambient sensor is changed so the lett backlight. The Connection was burned somehow.
