Since purchasing the 500X. In the past week the amber spanner warning light comes on after switching on the ignition. Aware that the service was not due and done early by 600 miles as part of the agreed sale, so can assume the dealer we purchased from did not reset the service count after the early service.

Dealer we purchased from is 240 miles away and not worth going back for a reset.

I have an older version of MES for my 20VT, but what cable interfaces do I need with the 500X to do the service reset with MES ?? ( Probably need updated version of MES as well as mine is old)

The the list of MES owners who are willing to help in your area.

See: https://www.fiatforum.com/multiecuscan-members-register/

500X was not supported till V3.1
Versions before this are unlikely to be able to do a Service Reset and if they can then it will require a lot of trial and error to find another vehicle setting that will connect and be able to reset.

05/06/2016 - Multiecuscan 3.1 Download
- Added support for Fiat 500X

Thanks. Think I will need a USB 2.0 or 3.0 to EOBD cable as my 20VT cable is a KKL type that has a live feed. Any suppliers on fleebay?

Well I see you also have a 500 Abarth as well as the 500X

If your version of MES is 3.1 or greater then software wise you should be OK.

For your 500 Abarth you need adapter cable A3 - YELLOW
For your 500X you need adapter cable A6 - GREY

For both you need a *known* to work ELM interface or an OBDLINK interface.

Personally I would be wary of Fleebay unless you use GENDAN (authorised distributor of MES software and compatible hardware). There are too many ELM interfaces that fail to work so going down the known to work and supported suppliers is your safest bet.

Regarding GENDAN then it looks like they only have limited items on eBay. However on their website ( https://www.gendan.co.uk/category_161.html ) they have all the variations and combinations of what you need.

Personally I would go for the MultiECUScan Hardware Only Bundle as this is complete hardware solution (£74) (you already had the Coupe 3-Pin adapter) or the OBDLINK only interface (£49) plus the two additional cables at £10 each which will cost you £70.

I moved from ELM to OBDLINK a long time ago. I never had a problem with GENDAN supplied ELM interfaces but it looks like they are not supplying then as a complete Fiat/Alfa solution any more. This could be because they want to distance themselves from all the problems associated with cheap ELM devices that just fail to work with Fiat/Alfa cars. Thanks S130.

Yeah, think that I will get the whole cable set and download the 3.1 version.
The Abarth has not needed any diagnostic yet after 3 years of ownership but the cable set will come into use for this vehicle when the time comes. I recall I got the 20VT cables over 10 years ago with Gendan, so thanks for the reminder.

NOTE! - Unless you have a MES Lifetime Licences then you may find that when you download MES 3.1 it will complain and go into trial/limited mode.

Remember to backup your existing version of MES or go and download it again. Previous versions of MES are available from the MES site but I always recommend people download and keep the install program for their licensed version. version

Quick question.

I had read about the Secure Gateway..

Does this mean if you pull up on the motorway with an MIL .. The recovery service operator cannot access any of the OBD INFO. ??

Charlie

I've read about it again it may be possible to read engine ECU faults codes but not clear them still
And all Access to other ECUs is still blocked

I'd definately have a moan at the dealer though for not doing the reset - that's just sloppy. BTW I had x2 Coupe's - great cars! :)

I could but cannot be bothered as got a lot more to secure the sale other than a careless mechanic.

Coupes live on. They always will if looked after...

You might want to plug in an OBDII reader, to make sure the car doesn’t have any fault codes.

Plug in an OBDII scanner to check for fault codes.

Version I had for the Coupe is version 1.0 and the old laptop was a 0.5GHz processor. Bought a used cheap laptop with 1.8GHz for £75 on eBay Thus the present full version for the 500X works better on processor speed above 1.5GHz as per advice from Gendan, thus Coupe version will be separate. Planning on getting the full licensed version with all the cables from Gendan. Thus will well covered for the future, along with any other FF users in SW Scotland area.

From what I read on the multiecuscan forum's you can't even connect to the can network or the engine ECU die to the sgw ( security gateway module)
Unless you wire a bypass to the obd port around the device

This is not true.

The SGW does not stop reading and diagnosing of error codes. What it blocks basically is "write" functions which sadly includes resetting off errors.

IMHO a total unnecessary overkill.
