My wife has a 500X multiair with the dct transmission.
Today, it has developed an intermittent fault.
The check transmission light comes on and it shifts into neutral.
After a few seconds, the light will turn off and everything will be normal.
It seemed to happen more when we went over speed bumps or if the car was on an incline.
This leads me to believe it is low on fluid, but wouldn't the low fluid light come on instead?
The car has been dropped off at the mechanic, but just wanting to get some thoughts here.
It only has 20k km on the clock.

Will be interesting to see what fault code(s) was(were) logged.

I have a complete list of DCT fault codes and diag procedures if it helps.

an example would be:

334- 500X 1.4 Turbo MultiAir Master cylinder pressure fault-Signal invalid C1400-86

The car has been at my local mechanic today.
He can't find anything wrong with it. No codes were stored and he couldn't replicate the problem. He told me to take it to Fiat instead and to refuse to take it home until they find a fault.

This is going to be fun.

Well if you are out of warranty then I would suggest you don't undertake "This is going to be fun" avenue just yet as you dealer will charge.

Get yourself a half decent code reader and leave it plugged into the EOBD socket. Learn how to use it to read code and also ensure your dear lady wife knows how to use it as well.

Now just drive the car as normal and the next time the problems happens, pull over, DO NOT stop the engine and use the reader immediately to read any fault codes. If the MIL/Tranmission light is on then there should be a code there to be read.

If nothing else you have a diag tool for future use. More importantly getting an error code before visiting a dealer is going to beneficial because it gives them something to go on as opposed to trying do diagnose a car with no currently active warning etc. They will probably just come back and say "no fault found" and bill you £75 plus VAT or more.

I agree with s130. I don't have the DCT box, I have the 9 speed auto and I have experienced numerous fault codes thrown up that have disabled the car, locked it in 'Park' until it decided to allow me to continue but there was never actually anything wrong. No Fault Codes were stored, no faults were found. The most likely explanation for my problems were either a) battery condition/connections or b) overheated ECU. 3 years and 28,000 miles later there has never been a fault found and no recurrence. Annoying as it is I hope your problems are also a 'glitch'.

The car is still under warranty. It's only 1 year old.
The only reason I took it to a local mechanic is because I was hoping it would only be a fluid change.
I have a code reader, and do does my mechanic.

I can't keep driving it because when the fault occurs, it goes into neutral. What happens if I'm making a turn across traffic and it decides to go into neutral?
This is why I'm going to refuse to take it back until they can fix it.
A few years ago, a ladies DSG equipped Golf went into neutral while she was on the freeway. A truck smashed into her, killing her.

The problem is, the light only stays on for a split second. During a 10 minute drive home, it happened 6 times. I was only lucky to get a photo of it 1 of those 6 times. This is despite my camera being on and ready to take the picture. Definitely not long enough to read any codes.

First the, 'check transmission' light comes on, then it goes into neutral and the 'function inadmissible' message flashes.

Fiat called me today. The fault was apparently a parking position sensor. The new part could take up to 3 weeks to come in.

Firstly was not aware your car was that new and under warranty in which case I would have just gone straight back to the dealer.

I guess for you now the news is good regarding the fault being found and bad in that the part is 3 weeks away.
