The 1.0 litre is the Firefly engine, which means three cylinders (cool!
) and a turbo, so the power output seems "not bad" in that regard. I'm just thinking about the torque and how much it might need to be worked to get decent speed out of it.
The motor will be reliable enough for sure - my money is on the turbo failing more than anything else, just because it's going to be working quite hard, I presume - but 100k should be possible without too many new parts.
Cooling-wise it'll be okay since the X had a 2.0ltr MJet diesel option at launch, which made c.170bhp so there's room for a radiator the size of Jupiter in there. The Firefly probably has a smaller radiator than the MJet and a blanking plate over the rest of the aperture.
I think Ford's problem was with hoses coming adrift rather than not enough cooling capacity.. but if the Firefly does end up running too hot, there's room for a retrofit MJet radiatore. That'll be big enough to cool the sun, never mind a 1.0ltr triple.
I did have a hire of a Skoda 1.2 Rapid a while ago.. and that was the 105bhp (turbo). It went really well with just me on board. It felt like an old-style 1.6 engine, at least until around 80mph... but when loaded it suffered a bit more drop-off of performance, and the Rapid is lighter than a 500X to begin with.
It might be worth a test-drive though.. modern stuff quite often surprises with how good it turns out to be.
