Does anyone have an idea where the fire extinguisher can be placed in the 500X without having to drill holes in the bottom of the car ?
The dealer simply placed it in the trunk by the spare wheel, not mounted.
Thanks.

I have a small box/container in the boot behind the rear seat (yes I know this takes up precious space) but in this I have my extinguisher, first aid kit, spare hi vis jacket (two hi vis jackets in rear door pockets as per EU (not UK) requirements) and some other smaller "ready to hand" items.

In the past (on other Fiats) when I have mounted an extinguisher is has been in the front passenger footwell mounted under the seat on the vertical cross member seat support/bulkhead. Have not investigated the 500X options in this particular placement.

NOTE! NEVER EVER put anything in the driver's side footwell area, even under the seat.

I also keep my extinguisher in a container (which is in fact an IKEA drawer organizer) along with other necessities, but in my case it doesn't take up the actual boot space thanks to the extra compartment under the boot. That way I can carry lots of stuff without cluttering the boot. The downside of this configuration, of course, is that there is no spare wheel in the car.

Ideally the extinguisher should be ready hand and not buried in the under boot area.

Another item which I keep meaning to relocate into the cabin / top boot area is the towing eye. I recall when I once broke down at Dover docks in a ferry lane waiting to load. The car was fully loaded for nearly a four week trip to Italy. The docks called for the breakdown company but meanwhile had to clear the lanes so also sent one of their tractor units to pull us clear.

Car took ages to pack and now I had to unpack everything dockside just to get the towing eye out  Could have been much worse though. A wet and windy night on a hard shoulder somewhere.

Most extinguisher mounting kits are only fit for the static weight loading and forces of the unit itself. In an accident in a vehicle the extinguisher becomes a lethal projectile.

Where ever one places it one must consider what happens if it breaks/comes loose. This rules out drivers side, rear parcel shelf, upper "B" and "C" posts for starters.

Front passenger footwell (lower "B" post below dash or centre above feet and below dash) are ideal. Next best IMHO is below/under front passenger seat. If it comes loose then it is a passenger annoyance. If it is released in an accident then it could break an ankle (or two) but that is about all.

Personally I now prefer the enclosed but accessible boot area. Extinguishers only last so long (5 years) and re-drilling for different mounts every 5 years does not appeal to me any more.

What you want is a mount mount. :)

Mount a piece of alloy (easier to work/drill) bracket where you want to mount the extinguisher, then mount the extinguisher to the alloy bracket.

If the next oextinguisher has a different mount/set up, you can just drill new holes in the alloy or fit a new piece of alloy using the original holes but with a different shape/profile etc. to suit the new extinguisher.

Thanks guys for the input.
I found a DIY on YouTube for making a bracket
to mount under the passenger seat.

Major pain in the *ss, they are, car fire extinguishers. Just taking up space and adding weight to the car.

Had fire service training for work, where we were asked to extinguish an actual car fire with the small extinguishers you get in normal cars. We (5 of us, each with 3 extinguishers) only managed to make a big mess; no way you can actually do something useful with them if your car is properly on fire.

Advice of the fire brigade trainers: exit car when it is on fire, and get far away.

Yes I know.
But it is mandatory for the annual car inspection.
He must be present in the car. :bang:

Penny just dropped..:D Belgium of course requires a fire extinguisher in your car.

Have to agree with both perelaar&Bratzz though, how useless the average car extinguisher is up against a vehicle fire. A tick box exercise from EU:p

Guys, finally with bracket fully installed ! :D

It is completely ready to install.
You do not have to change anything, fifteen minutes of work.
The only downside is that this bracket can not be ordered in Europe but only in the US (n)
I had contact with the manufacturer to ask him.
