Just been configuring a new 500x for my wife.

As far as I can see - there is no longer a 4x4 version ?

Discontinued ??

I wonder how that will affect the prices of used 500x 4x4 models ?

How many were ever sold in UK ?

Its one of the things we felt a bit short-changed about going to a 500X from our old Sedici. The full-on 4WD system in that was excellent although towards the end of the run in those they introduced a 4x2 version to cheapen the cars. Does anyone actually go off-road in their 500X?

Not sure if it qualifies as off-road, but I live in a rural area and some unpaved roads get quite nasty here when it rains. Can't say if it's because of the AWD or not, but the car hasn't let me down so far.

I've a feeling that the limited choice of engines in the facelift model will kill it off anyway, My 1.4 is as small as i'd care to go anyway and a 1.0 3-cyl sounds a recipe for disaster - Ford Ecoboost anyone? I don't like diesels personally but i can see why people buy them.

I'd tend to agree with you. I personally think it was too soon to drop all the diesels in the 500x - the 1.3 fair enough as they hardly sold any, and maybe the 2.0. However there are quite a few 1.6 Multijet's on the roads so they should've maybe kept that one in the facelift.

The petrol choices seem ok - the 1.0 3cylinder FireFly seems to get a positive reception even in our very anti-Fiat car magazines. However they need to fit it to the Urban and Off-Road look models, not just the Off-Road look ones. Plus it's daft forcing people who want the more powerful 1.3 4cylinder FireFly to have to get the TCT Auto - some people want power with a manual gearbox. I can't see that model selling well for that reason.

I need to try the 1.0. As per others I was surprised by that capacity in a car the size of the 500X however I've also read positive reviews and it seems small capacity with Turbo is the way most go now. I'm a massive Petrolhead and had only ever bought an oil-burner once before - an Alfa 159. That was purely because of the price and it only lasted a year as I hated the noise however when we bought my wife's 500X the situation had just turned in that Diesels for the first time were cheaper than Petrol engined cars because of all the negative press. I think the media have alot to answer for for creating negative opinions of modern Diesels. Yes the government keep moving the benchmark to suit for tax purposes however modern Diesel's are very clean and efficient - Isn't the 1.6 MJ Euro 6 compliant. I've been impressed with the performance of the car. Perhaps not quite as economical as I'd thought but the performance especially in 'Sport' mode is surprising - especially the difference from 'Normal' mode. We'll keep it for a couple more years unless tempted by any offers for the facelifted cars - unless depreciation comes in to play for a Stelvio :) Still don't like the noise though........

I agree that newer diesels are clean when new, i know when i emissions test them during an MOT i often get a zero reading, The problems start when they are only used for pottering round town then you get the likes of blocked DPF filters and EGR valves which are rarely cheap to rectify. That, and the need to find a glove when you fill up, means it is unlikely i'll ever have another diesel but i can understand why people buy them from tax and economy reasons.

If you need 4x4 and don't mind driving a shoebox, get a Jeep Renegade instead, it's the same car underneath. Also, according to a radio ad I heard the other day, they currently come with a 5 year warranty.
