Hi Everybody,

I am new to this forum and have recently become the proud owner of a fiat 500X model (1.4 Multiair 140HP Engine) Automatic Gearbox.

Its a brand new model with about 3400 km (I am from Belgium so I am using the metric system....). Its the previous model (not the revamped one).

When I bought the car I knew that the fuel economy mentioned by fiat is optimistic at best :) (7-9 litres/100 km). But in reality I can't get the usage below 11-12 litres, which in my opinion is ridiculous!! I consider myself to be a lazy driver so acceleration etc is very steady. Could this be a bad setting? Is there anything I can do? I contacted the garage and they told me that they need to drive a whole day to determine if anything is wrong. How can that help?

The car is equiped with a automated gearbox so how will they drive differently?

any advise would be very welcome ;)

Thank you

11 litres for 100km works out at just over 25mpg. 12 litres is 23.5mpg. This is consistent with what I get in mine which is a manual.

The majority of my driving is in town on journeys of 6 miles (my commute).

It's a very thirsty car unfortunately! My figures aren't too dissimilar to what my dad was getting out of his old 3.0 Mondeo ST220. I find this astonishing.

Mine which is a 2016 cross plus auto is getting 33-35 mpg around town (not completely jammed) and out of town so in the 20's seems very low. Do you have the stop/start turned off and you're not in Sport?

I have a 1.4 auto Cross model and fuel consumption in town is around 37 mpg and on a run 43 - 44 mpg. I don't race it but neither do I dawdle. Very seldom use sport mode or traction. Only use shell V-Power fuel. Don't use the stop start system. If I see traffic lights are red try and let the car slow down naturally rather than race up to them and slam brakes on then tear away when green.

I think fuel consumption is a lot to do with driving style.

Sounds about right as it’s an auto! I’ve had mine (manual)3 years and fuel on average is about 30 ish in town and 40 ish on motorways. It is I’m afraid just a thirsty engine .

Hi IMMYSB

I have the same car 1.4 multiair DCT, also living in Belgium.
I bought the car brand new and have now driven about 5000km.
I have the Cross S-Design with 18" wheels.
The average consumption on my car so far is 7.4 l/100km, i think this is very acceptable.
Don't know how it is possible that you have that such a high consumption.

I have a manual, In race mode most of the time and on motorways consistently get 37-38, never seen mid or low 40S, round town maybe 32 mpg. I think 25 is a bit low, and yes the figures from fiat are very optimistic,

Just looked at my "A" trip recorder, which hasn't been reset since the car was serviced about 5000 miles ago. It shows 35.3 mpg, which is about 34 mpg true (it's 5% optimistic). About 4000 of those miles are runs of less than 10 miles, but not much sitting in traffic. The other 1000 miles are long runs, holiday trips etc. These runs typically give 42-44mpg. Engine is 1.4 MA.

Hi, i saw a difference on fuel consumption by fitting tyres with fuel rated efficiency A, a full tank will last 10 days and i am doing at least 250 miles per week. Not even close to my previous car, 1.6 tdi ultra A3...but is more fun[emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
