Just wondering if anyone has tried this already, I've found a couple online(very expensive) and was wondering if it fits(with adjustments) and what will work/won't work after changing.

I tried asking Fiat this exact question and the only answer I got was "It isn't listed as an accessory"

What sort of price were they? I might well be interested after the disaster that is 6.5" uConnect

900 gbp plus shipping

pity is that in Ireland(where I am) there's little to no culture around car audio
unless is replacing old stuff with massive useless double din and garnishing with huge speaker and amp

That's usually the case with them when it comes to the head unit replacement. Makes me miss my Volkswagen days when I could just walk into the dealership and get all the options on the table right away. They even had the actual units mounted on a stand, with descriptions, prices and everything. Speaking of prices, they were steep for the newer units, of course, but at least I could make an informed decision on the spot.

Yeah, those units are way too expensive.

Im trying to replace my head unit here in America too. I cant get an answer from FIAT either, so I am going to try it on my own. I can get a used unit for about $200 so if it doesn't work I wont be out a lot of money. I also want to ad a backup camera since its built into the 6.5 or 7 inch units. I wonder if the new 8 inch would fit?

In my understanding, all the units should have the same physical frame and mounting points, the difference should be only in the screen size, so they should fit the dashboard with no problem. The electronics and the system compatibility is a different matter though. Nobody was able to give me any coherent answer about that.

Please post here about your results if you decide to go through with it.

I have asked the dealer in Greece exactly the same and he said to me, that we can not change the model of radio system. If it brokes we have to place the exact same model.

For what it's worth the 7" unit was not listed as an official accessory for the 500X, I couldn't even get a price for one when I enquired
