Just been quoted £452 for front discs and pads.....I think they are made of pure gold.... and I have just paid £356 for a 36000 mile service! No wonder that they have a nice showroom....[emoji35]

Interested in what’s normal mileage for replacement, my 1.6 is at 42K and on third set of tyres and no mention of need to replace pads either at 36k service, tyre change or mot.

I'm at 33,000 miles, second set of front tyres, original rears and original brake pads and discs, front pads being only 10% worn, although I find that a bit difficult to believe. Next service due in 3-4 months

Just got prices for discs and pads for my car (MA 1.4 petrol) from Euro Car Parts - just under £130. Sounds like a hell of a labour charge, brakes are one of the few jobs I still tackle and I reckon I could do discs and pads in an hour.

Same here Trev - although not attempted the 500X ones yet - I'll wait for your How-To! :)

Well, I was just looking out of curiosity. My 500X has only covered about 23,000 miles so far, I normally get over 30,000 miles from pads, so probably next year some time!

Just been done, dealer took 2 and 1/2 hrs to sort. My pads were lower than I thought at just under 2 mm. No brake warning light though. Still think their price was way to high....

Just got the bad news from my service, 37,500 miles. New discs and pads all round. £260 fitted for the fronts, slightly more for the rears

Looks like I am not alone[emoji23] Your place is cheaper than mine though. My rear discs look fine and hardly worn and pads look good as well. We have similar mileages I wonder why my rears are not worn like yours. I wonder how Fiat set their braking bias front to rear and if they change it model/year etc? I still think discs should last a bit longer than these Fiat ones.

I am at 50,000 miles. I had to change front brake pads for the first time since I bought the car new, as well as a new set of wipers. The cost was about £250.

I am surprised to see people change discs. In my limited experience, it could take several decades and well over 100,000 miles before the discs needed replacing. At least on normal cars.

Oh one more thing, the dealer wanted to change my front pads... last year! So yes, they lasted a whole year and my 500X is my daily driver!

My front discs were down to the minimum, but there was plenty of meat left on the pads, I asked for them to,be changed solely because of the mileage they had done. The rear discs were scored and pitted and had damaged the pads. I'm perfectly happy to change them at that mileage, it was just a bit of a shock coming all at once.

Front discs started wearing when the manufacturers had to change to asbestos-free pads. Rear brakes get very light use, so are more prone to rusting and pitting.

Seems like I had a win-double, not only were the discs and pads cheaper than you were quoted but the dealership (not Fiat) chucked in a lifetime guarantee on the pads. Never again will I be charged for the pads on this car. On the down side, they did order the wrong pads and discs first time round so they ended up keeping the car for an extra day, but probably worth it in the end.

Being main dealer I just had to put up with it. Prices per disc were £130 each plus£60 for pads so with vat then labour hence daft prices. Out of warranty now so next time?.....
