Hi all,

Been having lots of niggling issues with my 500X. The latest one was an odd one though. I was setting off for am150 mile drive and just before I got to the motorway I got an error message on the dash LCD and the orange light came on. I naturally pulled over asap thinking I'd got a puncture. But on checking the tyres, all was fine. The system invited me to reset it by holding ok which I did.

Anyone else had the problem? Something to worry about?

Thanks.

I used to get it frequently, anything from daily to monthly. Checked by dealer no fault found, finally settled down, still happens but only very rarely now. The system is vulnerable to external radio/electrical signals. Frustrating in the extreme but I've given up worrying now

On UK/EU 500Xs the TPMS is passive. The system (ABS) monitors differential parameters of wheel rotations looking for evidence of an under inflated tyre.

If you were to take 10psi out of all 4 tires, reset and go for a drive I doubt any warning would be triggered.

Conversely if the sun were to roast 3 tyres whilst the other was fully in the shade after a cool night then there would be a much increased possibility of a warning. I've had this once in 3 years.

Also when your car is serviced tyre pressure may be set to values that are incorrect. One should check the pressures yourself and do the reset.

I goes without saying that the same should be done after put one or more new tyres on the car.

The TPMS is not absolute and is there as a last safety warning only.

Ever since I had a puncture and had a tyre replaced it used to go off all the time at random. Never any loss of air. Many times I reset pressures but to no avail. Sometimes it went off when stationary at lights which in theory it can’t do as the wheels are not rotating! Had it checked at main dealer and told a fault was logged in comp but could find no fault to fix. When I had the rear tyres replaced with the same brand as the front ,the tyre pressure warnings completely stopped. I would say the system is very sensitive to different tyre types. Since all my tyres are the same brand I’ve not had a single warning.........

For sure replacing one tyre on one axle with a different brand/model is going to be a challenge for the system. All tyres have different rolling circumferences so mixing brand and tyre model is going to offer different data to the system.

As it is never a good idea to mix on same axle then I'm hoping that the TPMS system can cater for different front to back pairs. I have this on my 500X (till the rears come up fro replacement) and thus far now warnings.

I only had mine go off after I swapped fronts to rears. Of course, this changes the relative rolling cicumference for each axle. Once reset, it has not recurred in the year since. The handbook does warn of this specific cause, to be fair.

Hi two big dogs,
Thank you for sharing, this lady ran into same problem. I had a flat tire, so I had to buy two news ones on front. After that I got orange warnings about tyres. The pressure of all tyres were different. Some to much some too low. So brought them all back to 2.4. The warning remained. But I now understand it could be of the two different brand of tyres front different to back. So I will have to buy new ones on back to get the warning off?! Ai. Good sales mechanism. 15 years of punto now driving 500X completely different!

You don't say whether you reset the warning after the tyre swap. You need to do this or the warning will stay on.

Hi TrevC,
Thanks for note, my apology, yes I did tried several times to reset, by pushing, selecting the okay. It keeps coming back. I think after reading two dogs comment, after changing all tyres to one brand it may stop. Cannot check it now, because I don't want to buy two more tyres, as the back is still okay.
