Is anyone REALY interested in adding another layer of Fiat technology on top of the festering POS Fiat technology that is Uconnect (that Fiat dealers themselves either dont understand or dont know how to update) ?

Mind boggled

Well, I for one am curious to know if it does cut out the need for using a phone for the satnav traffic updates.

That being said, I fitted to tracker to mine last year not because I thought I needed one, but a friend had his previous car stolen and wanted one fitted. With that, I feel I am of the opinion that I can’t really recommend something unless I have used it. However, since fitting it I know that if my car was stolen, I could find it almost instantly.

Also, the feature of alerting a call centre if you have an accident is also useful. I work for an emergency service and a couple of years ago we responded to a TA that came in through exactly this sort of method. In fact, we would not have found the car at all had it not been for the GPS location given by the call centre.

So, I am interested.

Well I'm always interested in technology and it's sensible application for worthwhile benefit.

Fiats first real venture into "InfoMatics" (I think this is the term Fiat used) was with the Fiat Stilo Abarth. There they had the Sat Nat, GSM Phone/Connectivity built into the head unit plus the SOS button. I found this to all be quite a nice and reasonable use of technology. Behind these scenes was the "call information centre" that one could contact and ask them just about anything. This latter service was free for the first year and I used it ONCE to great effect. Now with the Internet and more detailed mapping etc. the information centre and its ability to deliver phone numbers, rout planning and route diversion information is no longer really required.

With all technology you have to "get the basics right" and not try to leap forward with all sort "gizmo" *rap much of which many won't use or possibly even understand.

To be quite honest the old Stilo head unit is just about as good as the current 500X unit yet we are many years on. This should never be the case but sadly is.

I got a phone call today from Fiat CS in Italy. Apparently Mopar Connect is nothing to do with the uConnect unit, it's a telematics box hard-wired into the car. I shan't be bothering

Telematics was the term used for the Stilo system. Telematics has a pretty broad scope as a vehicle communications, navigation, etc. technology.

That's exactly the word they used on the phone and repeated it three times. The main point they were making was that it did not compliment the uConnect unit

Hey guys

I own a Fiat Tipo and after logging into the My Fiat portal, turns out I may be getting a bargain price wise! Check out the screenshot Screenshot_20180722-011021.jpeg
