General Infotainment system playing up or just terrible to use

Hi all, I hope someone can help, I’ve only had the car two days and love it and yes i haven’t read the manual yet, but I think I’m techie enough to be able to use the infotainment display without problems.

I’ve a 500x cross with Nav and I’ve managed to connect my iPhone and I’ve also used the built in TomTom and all was going good then....

Today the music plays wirelessly whilst in media button and also when plugged into USB however today whenever I skip or the next track plays it pauses and has a speaker symbol with a line through it. I then have to press play on the display or press the volume up or down on steering wheel for it to play. It’ll then say can’t play press play on device.

The sat nav was fine but then on putting in the postcode it’s been freezing and the whole system then shuts down, in the end I ended up using mobile phone for sat nav.

I have paired my iPhone with the system and copied contacts, I had a fiat 500s before and used to press the face button and say call and the person name.
When I press the face on the 500x it starts saying say what you’d like to do and I say call and a name and we go around in a circle and it wanting to dial #00 , I then after 5 goes talking to it have to press recent calls and press the name of the person. This doesn’t seem a intuitive system at all.

It’s probably something I’m missing but really could use help, I’ve not even started to look at uconnect live.

You haven't said which unit you have. I have the 6.5" unit and whilst it isn't perfect it doesn't do any of the things you describe. Sounds like a software reinstall or update might be required. I have no idea of the quirks of the 5" unit

I believe if you go on the uconnect.eu website it tells you about updates and help for 5.0 inch screen!!
Has some helpful/not so helpful tips as well!
ciao Fiat told me that the main people who deal with uConnect don’t work weekends but log a call with them!!

Thanks I will have a look, currently sat in the car with the manual for the first time in years I’ve had to refer back to a book.

Can not believe how difficult making a call can be, I followed the book as it says press the voice button on steering wheel and say go to phone followed by call and say the name and it then replied “dial 1” and dials the number one. Surely it cannot be so complicated to make a simple voice command. They told me in the dealership to tell it to navigate to the address, can’t seem to find this option either . [emoji848]

I don't think the unit does any of this as youve described, I have the 6.5 unit on a Cross and I have to find and press to call the person I want to call, and I have to press the buttons on the Sat Nav to choose an address to navigate to.

Not sure if I have missed the point, but I have the 6.5 unit on a Cross Plus and I make calls totally hands-free. No need to use any buttons at all except to activate the hands-free system in the first place.

Yep; same for me in a Panda 4x4. You have to let your phone contacts list upload though I think?

6.5 unit works fine for me, can even use voice command for satnav.

My car is finally in with Fiat having some works done that should have been done before I collected when I bought it. I’d said how bad the infotainment system was to use so they’ve done a update yesterday which apparently took most of the day so delayed other works. Fingers crossed it’ll work better after update will give feedback after I get it back.

Well got my car back after a week at the dealership and after a Uconnect update that apparently took a whole day to update and it’s no better!!! I say to it “go to phone” and then “call .....” followed by the name and 50% of the time I get it saying. “dial 5” this goes on for a few attempts and then I have to press recent calls and press on the name of the person. I’ve got to say I’ve had this car three weeks and already loosing my patience, it’s like nothing has been done to the system at all I dare say the maps will still freeze. Plus I’d said the clutch pedal was very stiff, high up and creaking and they say there is nothing they can do with the clutch pedal height or stiffness and just greased the pedal which has had no effect on the creaking. Does anyone else find the clutch stiff and high up, my left leg is killing after a drive. Is it normal on a diesel for the clutch pedal to be stiff I’ve come out of a fiat 500 petrol and just had a courtesy 500L petrol and the clutch was so light to press and low to the floor.

So I’ve finally figured out the problem with the Uconnect system. So on my fiat 500 with blue and me the system on starting the engine worked fully within seconds. However on the Uconnect it takes a few minutes for the phone application to load the contacts even though I originally on pairing synced contacts.

So when I’ve been getting in the car and starting the engine the display has been showing the radio and I have pressed to make a call and said the persons name it’s come up with random numbers it thinks I’m saying. If I press the phone button on the displays it says for about four to five mins loading contacts and then it works perfectly and so does the media player for music after the same amount of time.

I’ve even had a software update done on this system since I got the the car three weeks ago so obvious that the service department don’t know that it’s a case of simply waiting a few mins and all works fine.
