Hi only just joined but huge fiat fan :D

I am doing my driving lessons (in a BMW X1) and I am now starting to think about my first car. I know I want a fiat but the 500 is to small for me as I need to seat all the way back which means no one can sit in the rear behind me.

I have fallen in love and am full set on getting the X cross plus loving the fact that it looks like the 500 and it matches my style and even more importantly has 5 doors. But is it an ideal first car some people are calling me crazy for wanting to get a big first but what do you think.

Im getting it front marmalade (maybe fiat since fiat is about 2 grand cheaper) and getting it on finance if you wanna see the spec and what I chosen then here's the fiat code 95DF2DCA.

Also before someone says insurance its only £100 more a mouth than the 500

Thanks for you answers/advice

Great first car if you can afford the insurance! You will find that going from the X1 to the 500x is negligible. My only concern is that prangs and wheel scrapes are commonplace when you start driving. So doing this on a brand new car may be soul crushing!

I have a Cross Plus (NOT my first car [emoji23]). I love it, but don't be fooled by the 5 doors, I consider myself to be of average height (5'10" ish), and I need the driver's seat all the way back which doesn't leave a huge amount of room behind. However, as it's normally just the two of us in it it isn't really an issue for us. I had a 500 as a Courtesy car and they're chalk and cheese. Definitely one of my favourite cars for spec, comfort and price

yes insurance isn't an issue at all (which I was surprised at).

Prangs and wheels are going to happen I am a first time driver so its gonna happen my friends 500 has gone though the same treatment so I am expecting it to happen to me as well.

I will go to the local show room and have a look at the seat space behind me once the seat is adjust to see if its any better than the 500 thanks for the warning but other than that....

it looks as if as long as I can afford the insurance and am will to accept that I might end up getting a few prangs. As well as scratches on the alloys then its a good first car. Looks like I am all set then and will be getting it awesome.

Is the £100 more for a learner or for a passed driver with there own lisence?

Sorry didn’t see your message tell now it’s for a passed driver who has healed a full licence for 2 mouths and it is a black box policy. Also it’s fully comp

I think it's a very good 1st car. I have owned a 500 diesel and now a 500x. I'm just above average height at 5.11 and found I could never get the seat quite low enough down on the 500, the missus at 5.2 loved it though.

Make sure the finances stack up tho, dont get yourself in shedloads of debt.

Also drive one before u take the plunge, some don't like the cross + 18" tyres even though they look good. FWIW I have an upspecced cross riding on 17" tyres, I tried the cross + and found it too firm.

Never found seat / room space a problem in the 500X - depends on what you are used to. I've had loads of older Italian stuff so probably more adapt than many at the classic Italian knees bent / arms stretched Italian seating style and I'm 6ft 2".

I am 6 2 as well and I am use to being in (as a passenger) a 500 and an audi A6 so the X should be ok for me then. As a side note I don't notice any difference in the leg room between the 500 and A6.

Of course the only difference is I need the seat all the way back in the 500 although despite this someone who was around 6ft still managed to sit behind me so bounces points for the 500 on that one.

Quick question auto or manual and if you say auto 6 or 9 speed. Also I swear I seen the American 500x have paddle shifters (I could be wrong though) but if the American one does have them does the Uk one come with them as well.

That's what I am hoping to hear :D I always pass a fiat dealer on the way to work so one morning I will leave early and stop by to see what I think I know they got a few 500X's in at the moment which is good.

hopefully they are different model so I can have a good look at the range although from what I read I am still currently set on the cross plus.

I have a Cross Plus and love it. Before I bought it Fiat were offering a 24 hour Test Drive and I did about 200 miles in the 24 hours. Always worth asking if you can have one before committing to the expense. 24 hours much more representative than 20 minutes with a salesman

I cant check out the code so can't see the exact spec your after, but expect it'll be somewhere around £20k purchase price after discount.

Look at this https://www.motorpoint.co.uk/vehicleadvert/fiat/500x diesel hatchback/803460

Brand new 1.6 MjD lounge with delivery miles so similar spec I expect as cross+ is similar to lounge spec but off road look. Imo if you owned that for 5 years it'd cost circa £120pm in depreciation.....think of this as a comparison with the monthly cost you'll be paying. I expect it's somewhere around half.

Might not be your 100% ideal car you want but if the savings are big enough it's worth considering.

I bought mine from motorpoint last August, same price as this one (they do add on road tax and preparation fee of £99) but i got a 2l 4*4 at9 cross. Found out it had spare wheel, comfort pack, safety pack, they didnt even realise. Paid for it outright, would never get their finance, cheaper to go to a bank or summat.

Let me know if the code now works :D

can you give me a link to the page where i can copy n paste the code into the box pls

My AT9 hasnt got paddle shifters per se but you can get the same effect when in drive mode my moving the gear lever to the left and selecting gears up/down semi automatic. I sometimes use it for novelty value but most of the time just leave it in drive and let it select the gears for me.

My Cross Plus AT9 has the 'Paddle Shifters' on the steering wheel and I do use them occasionally. I believe they are/were an optional extra but I can't remember which pack.

I may email fiat or ask the dealership about that then. By the way just to make sure I am guessing by AT9 that means a 9 speed auto.

Just making sure it case its a non uk model :D

Just been on live chat with fiat:

No there are no paddle shifters as an option

I also asked if the remote start (from the key) was an option and they also said no can some (uk spec model) confirm that please as I kind of feel like the person who I spoke to on the live chat did not know what I was talking about.

they also where not sure what paddle shifters were so I may have to check up in person at the dealership to make 100% it isn't an option.
