so A few post back I said I spoke to fiat and they said there are no pedal shifters I am now confused.

In this video

The car clearly has paddle shifters go to 4:06 and they are even briefly spoken about. its clearly a uk model as well. So does that mean they just got rid of the shifters for the 2018 model or do the person at fiat not know what I was going on about confused.

I don't know the answer, but I do know that my car has them and they work. Presumably discontinued like many other options

I'm just asking because it may make a difference to your purchasing decision.

The 1.4 manaul and 1.6mj probably have similar real world performance. 1.4 has 140hp/ 170lb ft torque, the 1.6 has 120bhp and 236lb ft torque. In fact I'd guess the diesel is slightly ahead performance wise even though the 0-60 time is a second behind.

Using the average fuel figures for each taken from here:

https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/fiat/500x-2015

I expect at current fuel prices the diesel to cost approximately £46 less than the petrol per 1,000 miles driven.

May not sound like a lot but if you intend to drive 11,000 miles per year, in 5 years the Petrol would cost approx £2,500 extra in fuel.

Something to think about.

sorry been away for the pass 3 weeks just been busy with work and stuff and also done some think decided not to get the 500x now I just feel as if after some though and also what I am doing its not the car for me right now.

therefore I have decided to get this: 7FA52F2C

Type the code in on the fiat car configurator and let me know what u think personally I got wait to get it.

(I will of course have to move to the 500 sub forum instead :D of this one but just to finish this thread up I though I would post here)

Looks extremely nice. Probably a more sensible choice for a first car than the X. I bought a 500 Lounge with the Twinair engine new in 2011 and kept it until last year, when I part-exed it for my 500X. My wife and I loved it, and it had no significant faults during the 45,000 miles we ran it for.
I recently drove a new 1.2 Lounge as a courtesy car, and although it wasn't as quick as my old twinair, it's brisk enough with good m.p.g.
Enjoy!

A twin air owner good.... I am tempted by the twin air but I have read reviews about it vibrating the car around and just not being as good noise or comfort wise as the 1.2.

The only thing I really do want to add is the dualogic Semi-auto but I am also being put off by it due to review about it being unreliable and always causing problems such as going into natural, jerky gear changes and also not going into gear straight away. Have Fiat fixed it now or does it still have the same issues. I am hoping the issues have been fixed as I really do want it but reliability takes presidents over what I want. :)

The twinair is a bit of a "Marmite" engine with lovers and haters. I loved mine for its performance and character, but it does vibrate if you let the revs get too low, and the fuel consumption increases significantly if you use the extra performance. Like the Multiair engine used in the 500X, it's very important that the correct oil is used with frequent changes, although I personally wouldn't run any car more than 10,000 miles without an oil and filter change.
The Twinair engine is chain cam, so won't need the timing/auxiliary belt/water pump change every 5 years that the 1.2 requires.
I'd stick with the manual gearbox as a fair number of problems have been reported with the Duologic, which is an automated manual rather than a true automatic.
Good luck and I'll look out for you on the 500 forum.

cool thanks for that I still don't 100% know if I should go for the twin air but I will end this thread now as this is more of an X post in the X forum so will start a new post over in the 500 forum about the twin air look out for it there.

Ok I have no doubt then I am getting the manual that duellogic really does sound trouble.

Well I would add my not so qualified view as I've never driven or had a twin air.

My simple observation would be is that the 500X is a heavier car, bigger car wrt load carrying, etc. and in this regard the 1.4 petrol is going to be the better al round option.

The 500X Cross plus is a great, stable and sporty drive (when you want to) and IMHO not having the 1.4 engine would be a loss. Of course this all depends on ones driving style, etc.

I've had my 500X Cross Plus 1.4 MultiAir to over two and half years now and including towing a 1000kg caravan my long term mpg is around 32MPG. Not brilliant, not bad, but all things considered acceptable. Yes add road tax on top.

If I were you I would be getting the dealer to give me a long term test drive of a twin-air and multi-air so you can decide your own opinion and not rely on those offered here.

Sound advice on the long test drive - I tried the 500 with a 1.3 diesel, 1.2 petrol and 0.9 twinair before deciding that the latter was the one for me. The 1.2 engine doesn't use multiair technology, it's a simpler beast.

I got to drive a TwinAir for a couple of days about a year ago. Had it in an Alfa MiTo. When I got in and started to drive the thing, I thought it was broken! Definitely not something I could live with. And the performance figures were, in my opinion, optimistic. It felt extremely sluggish. Maybe it's acceptable in the 500, with it being a smaller car. But the noise, vibration, having to rev the knackers off of it all the time? No thanks.

No, it was in D for "dynamic" or "dear god, my ears are bleeding and my bones are now dust" mode.

Had a 500 TwinAir as a courtesy car once. As above, took it back to dealer saying it was broken, only it wasn't. Definitely couldn't have it as my regular car, awful IMHO
