General Outside temp display

General Outside temp display

Hi last couple of days it’s been quite cold around 5 to 8 deg in the morning but my display shows 22 to 23degrees! Ice alert normally comes on at 5 deg but not now. Anyone know where the outside sensor is located?

After 4 years and 51k miles I have just fallen foul of the same problem. Bit of a nuisance when the outdide temperature is 2 deg but the ACC wants to cool me down because it thinks it's 23 deg. An expensive fix out of warranty I'm guessing.

I think when I had mine done the basic wing mirror assembly was £80 odd ish. Labour will be about 45 mins to an hour.

My concern would be that out of warranty if you have any door card clips break then if they have not had the brains to order some with the mirror assembly then they could just put back as many as are still serviceable and you end up hoping there are nose loose/noisy issues afterwards. All depends on how honest your garage is.

Of course you could do the job yourself and see if you can source a replacement mirror assembly from OEM/pattern sources.

What ever you decide ENSURE YOU GET YOUR OLD MIRROR ASSEMBLY BACK.

The mirror unit comes in 3 pieces. The painted cover, the little blanking plate that hides the mounting screws and the body with temp sensor, motors and glass.

If mine fails again I will be looking at replacing just the thermistor/sensor. Cut the leads to the one moulded/sealed into the little nipple under the support arm/mirror and stick a replacement into the back of the mirror. Probably cost in parts less than a £1 to do.

As for the sensor part then this is just a variable resistor (with temperature) so if there is no markings on the existing one then it is just a matter of a little profiling with some fixed resistors. e.g. 1K, 5K and 10K to see what is displayed. Then a variable resistor/potentiometer in around the right range value (say 5K) and then adjust till the display matches outside temp. Preferably done a 20Deg.C. Also by varying the pot. you can determine if the sensor has a negative or positive coefficient.

With that info (unless somone has already publish the info) then a web search of NTC/PTC Thermistors will reveal what you need to obtain to replace your duff one.

Do they replace all three parts or just the main body?
