Big shout out to BigIan for this top top tip..

To turn off those annoying and frankly useless Camera Alerts you have to silence the Sat Nav lady...

On UConnect goto Nav/Settings/Turn off Voice Guidance and behold no more Camera Alerts...

This of course also means no lady giving directions so when using Navigation you will have to turn the lady on again and suffer the Camera Alerts for the duration of your journey...

Just another bonkers setting in UConnect... that's Italian Car Designers for you...

Another solution. Use a GPS signal generator that says you are in a European country when Speed Camera detection/warning is not legal.

So for France the AA advise:

What should you do

If you have a satnav capable of displaying French camera locations in France then you must at least disable camera alerts before driving in France. We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the satnav for advice as it is likely that a software or database update is available that will actually remove camera data for France from the device.

If you have a satnav system built into your car then we recommend contacting the vehicle manufacturer in the first instance.

More to the point does the Fiat uConnect Nav Unit comply with country legislation base on the vehicles ability to detect where it is:

Having driven a bit in France, and other European countries (Belgium, Germany, Italy) my 500X uConnect to my knowledge ever warned of speed cameras.

The joys of Fiat motoring :)

You don't need to do any of that stuff, just set it to only alert you if you're exceeding the limit. It's in sat nav settings.

Does on mine, followed some instructions on here earlier in the year, been fine ever since, even with a battery swap.

Ooh I hope I can find those instructions. Have to re-select it every single trip without fail

The instructions are wierd, it looks like you're permanently disabling it, but what happens is it only ever warns me now if I'm at or over the speed limit. It doesn't matter if I have a sat nav journey active or not. It's actually very useful in this mode. For the record my Cross Plus has the stock 5 inch sat nav, not the fancy pants one ?

That's obviously where I'm going wrong, fancy pants version.

It's booked in for its annual service next month, let's hope the software upgrade and new maps update solve the issue between them

Tried this and it won't stay selected and even when it is it still alerts me even within the speed limit..

I have the 6.5inch fancy pants version, must be an inherent fault with this..

Turn off nice Sat Nav Lady, no more Alerts...

Listen to Sat Nav ladies dolcite tones, have camera alerts...

I chose to turn off all sound.

I dont need constant instructions at every junction. Thats as annoying as the alerts !

Each type of speed camera has a sound setting you can turn them all to silent and still keep the nav lady

I've found how to turn off the satnav voice easily, but can't find any option to give alerts if I'm exceeding the limit. Basic 5" version. Can anyone describe the menu path?

Hi Trev, from memory, it didn't have anything to do with the Nav Voice. I'm pretty sure it was under Proximity Alerts in the Sat Nav settings.

I just nipped out to the car, and couldn't find "Proximity Alerts" in any of the menus. It could be me, or my system may not have that feature. Next time it's convenient, can you jot down the path through the menus you used? It's not really a big deal as it's very simple to turn the voice on and off in the Nav.

Ok so on the 5" I've turned off Camera Alerts in the "services" menu. And then in the "settings" menu I have enabled 'warn me if I'm over the speed limit' and that works well.
