Good, I got your attention. Now of course there are no actual birds inside the dashboard, it's just chirping sounds coming out of it whenever I run over uneven parts of the road at moderate speeds.

I know such issues are extremely hard to pinpoint and almost impossible to replicate in repair shops, but maybe someone had a similar experience and could give me useful tips on where I should be looking.

I would have thought noises resulting from going over uneven road might be to do with the suspension?

We just had the dash stripped and a chunk replaced and sound-proofing refitted to eliminate a rattle (which was a fairly high-frequency rattle come squeak, so not sure if this could be construed as a bird-like tho!) coming from the top left of the 5 inch screen bezel / housing - wasn't obvious but by process of elimination by prodding various bits of the dash eventually revealed it - local dealers were really good (Platts Staffordshire) and was all completed under warranty.

It's definitely coming from inside the dashboard, but car sounds can be tricky, I can't rule out anything.

That was my idea as well, to strip down the dash and prod things here and there, but our local Fiat service manager said that first he wants to check the car on a testing stand to see if he can reproduce the sound.

We had to take one of the service guys out for a spin to demonstrate it in the end as it couldn't be reproduced in the workshop - to be fair it was quite subtle but nonetheless irritating once "tuned in" to it...! Good luck...

I had a rattle on my lounge model when new (15 plate) managed to record the sound which seemed to come from the dash. In the end confirmed as a lack of padding just behind the info sat nav head. The 500x loan car they put me in while the garage investigated the rattle had the same issue!

Any explanation on how exactly that lack of padding had occurred? Was it never there or just fell off or something?

My view given that it was also an issue with a loan car of the same early production run is that it was missing as a result of manufacturing quality control. The issue was driving the dealership mad and when resolved the service manager remarked that it was now a known issue......l

Thanks! I'll make sure to convey this to our local service manager. Even if it's not the case with my car, this info may prove useful in the future.
