Re: Higher profile on 18" wheel ?

FWIW I do like my cross wheels. previously we had a 500 lounge with the standard "radial" design and these were all shiny alloy and a pain to keep clean, they always looked a bit dirty unless spotless. The cross wheels on the 500x however are shiny alloy on the surface and then have dark grey/ black inserts inbetween and they do look good even with a bit of dirt/ dust on them. What also helps on the off road versions is because they have black plastic skirts and wheel arch surrounds they match well.

Which brings me onto another option you might want to consider, all depending on the look you want........ Im not usually a fan of fitting non standard wheels to car's, I think it makes them look cheap, but in this case I don't think a bit of variation would necessarily result in that. I'm thinking fiat/ alfa group wheels.

This is apparently a picture of a 500x abarth (will it ever arrive?), and I think these alfa horseshoe wheels look ok.

Here are some more alternatives from pics I have seen.

Here's another option fitted to the 500

I have no idea what look your going for, or if standard cross would be your ideal, but I think there is a bit of creative licence on offer by expanding your search to 500 abarth rims/ alfa rims for a start. I'm also expecting (I haven't looked) that because there is more choice they could end up being cheaper.

All 500x versions have the same skirts and wheel-arch surrounds!

You are indeed correct, I didnt notice. With the city look not having the beefed up front bumper and guards the skirts and surrounds aren't as noticeable....well not on some colours anyway.

Digressing slightly regarding colour I do think the 500x in general is very versatile in almost all colours. Normally if you were going for a premium German brand most would choose silver, grey, black, while for the 500x it's kind of the opposite, primary colours, white etc. However I've seen 500x's in grey and they look nice. I'm surprised they dropped the Toscana green recently, that also looks good.

I nearly chose the white but I ended up getting the red. Both these colours show off the skirts/trims etc quite well.

That colour looks nice with the contracting add ons, if i remember correctly argento grey. I always think the lower sill strip brightens them up but they are priced silly at two hundred and something pounds.

I notice the bonnet stripe doesnt follow over the roof, I thought they all did like this.

I thought the 500 looked best in white but for the 500x its red. I dont like the amore one, too rangey and £1k is plain silly. The strange thing about passione is it looks like so many different colours, in bright lights almost scarlet (which it isn't at all), then shiny and medium red, and then turns into a deep red in low light. I love it

....will have to remember to get the guilia/ stelvio quadrofoglio in the same colour one day.... :)

Took ours off, has a big cut out saying 500X, it was a bit much even for me. Aiming to get a plain custom stripe made to replace the old roof one. Colour is described as Art Grey by FIAT, but it's definitely a Laté beige.

I'd have kept it on, looks good. I like my go faster stripes, had an italian one on the old 500.

When I first seriously considered buying one last october a supermarket had a 16 reg with about 1,000 miles on it, £15k i think. Cross plus AT9. I remember it well, pics went up Friday about 5pm and by the following morning it had gone. I think it was the full mopar jobby, and looked like this.

I do like that grey look though with stripes too, think it looks lovely.

Yes ours is the full Xtra kit, just didn't like the cut out logo on the roof. But the sill inserts are nice.

Yes they are. I cant comprehend the cost of them though, £260 or something seems far too much. That said I wouldnt be in the market for one anyway as I have a red car, if i had light grey or white I would be.

Didn't pay anything like that. The parts dept had a pack on display and I offered £90, (£120 fitted) not cheap but not unreasonable for factory items and I liked the look.

Re: Higher profile on 18" wheel ?

That's a good price, I'd have bought too.

Well, my handbook states the Fiat 500x is fitted with 16" or 17" or 18" wheels depending on model.

The 16" one with 215X60 tyre has an almost identical circumference.

I can get a steel wheel with decent tyre on ebay at £175 per corner. I am not fussed on alloys and steel with wheel trims will do me fine. I am more interested in ride comfort than looks !

Steel wheel FIAT 500X City 334 215/60 R16 95H Goodyear all season are available on ebay at £175 each.

I figure, I can recoup all the cost by selling my mint condition alloys with 10k miles tyres ?

Can anybody see an issue with the steel wheels fitting ? I figure if they fit a City model they should fit cross plus too ?

No, it'll be fine as long as the wheel & tyre combination rolling radius is to the design spec as per the manual the only difference will be ride comfort and looks.

Only minor point would be to make sure you're buying from a reputable outlet and the wheels conform to weight and speed requirements of the car... don't want to be running round on cheap iffy quality wheels.

I think the price quoted looks a bit high for steel wheels. I think you could pick almost any, I can't see why they'd have to be fiat 500x specific.

I think the 16 inch alloys off the pop/ pop star (cant remember) would maybe be your best bet. But then there's other Fiat 16 inch alloys say from the 500. The 500 on 16's has the same problem as the 500x on 18's, people buy them and then find the ride too hard.

Saying that to get a good price you'll probably have to wait a bit and see what pops up.

It really sounds like so much trouble for something that I really can’t see as a major problem? I’ve driven both 17 and 18 versions.....both are fine...

It is something that all the testers for the various publications picked up on. The higher the profile, the more comfort.

Ok, I found the same combo at nearer £600. The tyres alone seem to retail at £100 ish and the steels alone at £45 ish - delivered.

However, when it came to looking at ebay and seeing what I might get for my alloys - I cannot find mine !!

Can anybody identify mine and tell me what they are worth ? Fiat retail price and used but clean with 10k mileage.

Ooooh - for a few quid more 282680607566 - £65 ish delivered - black alloys would look nice on my white car......................

I just spoke to a guy on facebook. He was in same position. He did not go to 16" because it would have meant swapping over the tpms too - extra expense. I had forgotten about tpms.

But...........he went for 225x55x18 - up to 55 from 45 profile. Fitted fine with no fouling. Gearing was fine with only a small deviation on speedo. He says comfort was noticeably improved.

So, once the fronts wear out - I might try that ( all round obviously ) - wont be long as I am doing 1500 to 2000 miles per month !
