Technical Ouch, Battery has conked out!

Thanks.

I wondered if after 5 or so tries it might work but it didn't.

Thinking back, one thing I did wrong is when the warnings flashed up willy nilly I just got impatient, then reset and tried again, what I maybe should have waitied a bit like you did.

I'll give it a try this evening when I get a chance, see if it's any different.

Many thanks for your comments.

I have wondered if locking then unlocking the doors might work, because that is basically what happened with the AA man, albeit 45 minutes apart. Crazier things have worked before [emoji23][emoji23]

All this stuff is so complicated these days we have no idea what links to what and how it all fits together.

Like I say I'll try later when I get an opportunity and I bet if I try a few random things as you suggest....and maybe a few more, i'll get there.

For the commercial pilots among you who fly highly complicated, computerised, integrated machines they are much better off than we are. By procedure they don't, except when all else fails, make assumptions/decisions etc. They reach behind their seat and retrieve the airplane's bible and follow the there defined procedures for whatever they are confronted with.

These bibles have every conceivable system error, flight error, emergency procedures clearly laid down for them to follow to recover, correct etc.

Sadly the humble motorcar just shows a light and the user manual says "return to dealer". If you are lucky when you get to the dealer they will sort you out/or not.

Indeed, I have rarely seen a less user-friendly manual as that for the 500X

I had to leave ours after my last post.

I had a chest infection for a few days afterwards and then we went on holiday for 2 weeks. Got back tried it yesterday and couldnt even unlock the doors electronically.

A recovery guy came, and started on the booster then did a diagnosis, all looked fine. Left it running for 15 minutes twice, took off the booster and it couldnt start on its own, the battery was just taking no charge and like he said as dead as a dodo.

So then i called the dealer and it's going on there on the back of the truck, no good staying at home if i cant start it. The guy at the dealer asked if it had done a lot of short trips.... well it has recently but not that many overall. As I have said in other posts, registered dec 2016, i picked up in late august 2017 with 11 miles on the clock, then drove to maybe 500 miles on long runs in the space of a week, then done another 60 miles of short trips in 6-8 weeks.

After what I had read on here I had a feeling it was a dud battery.

.....and i suppose the natural next question to ask is......

after the first battery conks out and is replaced are people finding the replacement any better?

Just had a call from the garage this morning, all sorted so collected it. They even managed to wash the car which was nice.

They changed the battery and upgraded the software.

Apparently when the car arrived the radio was on and according to them there have been instances (with other cars they've seen) under the old software version that the radio could come on automatically without user intervention, that's what might have been happening with mine.

For the time being, and because I won't be doing any longish trips for the next few weeks I have decided to turn start stop off until it gets a proper run. It is maybe a bit over cautious but with winter coming I don't want to overload the battery.

Despite this minor flaw I still love the car.

Had more of a look at the infotainment. When I said they upgraded the software it seemed they did.

They seemed to have reset it. When i went into apps it was just showing temperature and clock, there was no uconnect on it, so I went to restore default apps or something and reset it.

Looks like i was a few versions behind to say the least.

Uconnect live changed from a previous 5.10.4 to 5.18.2

Update manager changed from 2.2.0 to 5.4.1

Reuters and a few more things have gone, i'll have a better look over the next few days.

That eco driving things there though, quite like that just for novelty value.

The radio has a mind of its own! Sometimes mine freezes and it will not switch off....no button or steering wheel controls work. Switch off engine and radio stays on. Restart car it turns off. Sometimes it goes off and comes back on after a few seconds. Fiat quirkiness [emoji23]

Funny you mention that. Yesterday I got in mine and the radio didnt work for about 15 seconds, said the reversing camera didnt work too. Then it booted up and was ok.

It's amazing, only done 600 miles in mine and these days im so used to the reversing camera, its very good.

Then it did a software upgrade a bit after via uconnect, seems to be ok now. All the apps and stuff are back now.

I keep looking around here and there, you'd think even tho its non nav there would be some way to project a nav app from uconnect to the screen, alas i haven't found anything yet. Like I said before I suppose i'll just have to use my old phone.

Yeah to be honest it’s not really the latest tech but for me the phone works well and I use the streaming from my phone for the music. I just wish the screen was bigger!
