Re: Transmission problems

I did inform the dealers in writing before the end of the six months that I was rejecting the vehicle but was advised by FCC to let the local dealer have another go. The local guys appeared to have fixed it but the fault came back again after the six months.

I will make some enquiries but I clearly made a mistake in not rejecting it. I would advise anyone with a problem with there Fiat to reject it maybe then Fiat will sharpen up their act.

Re: Transmission problems

To be fair the sales guy has been helpful and tried his best, it's FCC that are being unhelpful

I eventually got 200 worth of vouchers out of them for my inconvenience. Had to make sure I spent them all

Re: Transmission problems

The saga of my 500X clunking transmission goes on ! I have heard from the garage today that the Fiat Technical Guy has visited and not been able to suggest a fix for the clunking that occurs when I put my foot on the accelerator at around 30 - 40 mph. It's a 2 litre auto 4x4 that I bought new in February this year. I think this was the 11th visit having had all the engine/gearbox mounts replaced and 2 new driveshafts they are now suggesting it might be normal !

If you have a 500x the same as mine please could you let me know if yours has a clunking from the transmission, I am concerned that Fiat are going to try and wash their hands of this problem that the simply don't know how to fix

I can't go out and test mine for another 3 weeks as I'm on crutches, but I do get a kind of knocking through the transmission tunnel at times, and I have always put it down to being normal for that box. When I bought my car it was running really rough and the noise was far more obvious than when running smoothly. The dealership had my car for nearly 3 months trying to identify and fix the rough running, they MUST have heard it but never commented on it. I'm up to nearly 25k miles now and no issues with the box at all except for the noise which I tend not to notice much now.

Re: Transmission problems

I have had a response from Fiat which even if you don't have a 500X like mine tells you something about Fiat. It seems to me if they can find another car with the same problem as yours then it is normal for that car so they won't fix it. They tried at least 7 times to fix mine, successfully on one occasion albeit for a couple of hundred miles, but now they can't fix it they say it's normal. What a disgrace! Re: Fiat 500X S1XBG

Dear Mr Gooch,

Thank you for the time you have spent with me on the phone over recent days, during which you have fully explained the noise issue you have with your car.

As you know your car was inspected by one of our Field Engineers yesterday. During the road test with our Engineer, you demonstrated your concern to him. The noise could only be replicated with the throttle being applied in a fast application after an over run / throttle off situation. Our Engineer did not find the noise to be obtrusive. The Engineer, prior to testing your car again, had tested two other 500Xs which were the same as yours. The noise was present on both these vehicles; I understand you were shown a video of one of the vehicles that was tested.

The findings of the inspection, therefore, is that the noise is consistent with the car and that there is no manufacturing defect. There are no modifications that can be carried out to the vehicle so that it meets your expectation. The vehicle performs as it should.

Having spoken with you, I release this will be a disappointment to you. However, as gesture of goodwill, I would like to offer you 150 towards the fuel costs you have incurred whilst taking your car to Platts and Perrys, over recent weeks. If you would like to accept this offer, please provide me with details of your bank account, to include the account and sort code number and the name of the bank. I can then arrange for a telegraphic payment to be made.

I recall we mentioned the Motor Ombudsman during our most recent telephone call. You may wish to refer your case to them and make use of the Alternative Dispute Resolution service. You can register your complaint online at:
