How are we doing on tyres people?

On my 2.0 Multijet 4WD I got approx 15,000 out of the fronts, but the rears are still looking like new after 24,500. What seems to be the average?

When I got my Multiair Lounge it had about 14,000 miles on it. Fronts were down to about 4mm, rears just over 6, so I swapped them and expect to replace all 4 at around 25-30,000 miles.
Alan, I'd expect the fronts on yours, with the heavier diesel engine, to wear more quickly than mine, which they have done.
Mine has Goodyear Eagle F1s, 225/45 R18s. Our other car has Michelin Cross-Climates, which have really good reviews for cold weather grip, noise, ride quality and wear. When I last checked, they didn't do the size to fit my Fiat, here's hoping they do by replacement time.
A cautionary note if anyone has the 4WD variant. Many modern 4WD systems can be damaged by having a disparity of circumference between front and rear. Apparently more than a couple of mm tread difference front to rear is bad news.

Thanks for that tip Trev, I certainly hadn't heard that before

I've had Contis on several cars as original fit. Good tyres, but I've always found they wear more quickly than other premium brands.

I've got Avons on front now.... seem pretty good and nearly half the price of the Conti's.

I've replaced the original fronts with Kumhos, and after 10k or so they're still looking good. Grip is fine too

Michelin Pilot Sport 18" on Mine, fronts do about 15k just swapping to Conti Pro Contact all season, can't see them being any worse. Michelin Pilots on the back are original and at 34k are barely worn.

All tyres have a DOT wear rating on the side wall. This combined with tire design and you can't go too far wrong. I have had Avon's and Barums before and rate both highly. The Barums are higher than the Avon's on the dB ratings. But the Barums have the same wear rating as Continentals etc, so last longer.

Can anyone tell me what the OE fit Tyres were on a 1.6 MJ Cross Plus? I've seen MJ's new on Bridgestones but MA's new on Michelins even though its the same wheel?

With the rare amount the 4wd actually kicks in (on demand) im unsure this will be an issue for most. I put mine on some wet grass the other day, into traction mode and accelerated just to see the graph in the instrument binnacle show the front/ rear split of power, lol.

Regarding tyres if I had an 18 incher i'd be trying to find tyres to improve ride comfort first over other considerations.

You are probably right. I don't know for sure whether the 4WD system used on the 500X is susceptible to damage from mismtched tyres. There has been a fair amount of discussion on the Honest John website about it. BMW specifically recommend not running mismatched tyre diameters with their X-Drive system.
On the tyre front, I improved the ride and road noise on our other car by fitting all season tyres - Michelin Cross-Climates. Of course, these have the added benefit of improving grip during the winter months. Unfortunately, the last time I checked these weren't available in the size my 500X requires. The Goodyear Eagle F1's should be ok for at least another year, so maybe the correct size will be available by then.

It's usually whatever the factory batch of that size is at the time. MJ's I've seen were mainly Michelin, but as long as the size and rating are correct it really is just personal choice and budget.

Hmm - usually a dedicated tyre is the OE spec to one brand. I'll look in the next showroom I go in!

I am in the process of buying a 500 X AWD 2.0 Cross Plus MJ second hand 2016 plate, front tyres down to last 2-3 mm, I usually change at 3mm!
I notice on here that somebody mentioned that you shouldn’t have a big disparity in mm between front and rears?!
Question is do I replace all four or get dealer to pay for front, I pay for the rears?!?
I was looking at Michelin Cross-climates+ but ouch at @ £150-00 a quarter!!
Has anyone had issues feedback with these!
Also looking at Verdestien Quatrack 5, cheaper but more of a traditional all season tyre?!?
Any thoughts anyone??
Thanks

I have the same model. My rears are on 28k and still 5mm or more left. I'm on the second set of fronts, the first lasted about 15-17k. Not a simple situation

Hmmm I guess it would be an idea to rotate tyres front to back and therefore even out wear!?!
Have you tried the Michelin Cross Climates +???

Absolutely.

Those using different sets for winter/summer seasons, like me, should mark the front wheels for storage and then swap them during the next seasonal replacement with the rear ones.

Not at that price, plus my local tyre depot doesn't have them for 18" rims

Thanks for this. I think I might swap over front and back then at approx 10k miles. That way i should get 20k miles out of the set before needing to replace.
