Hi all,
I’m curious if anyone knows of any legal blacked out lights that are available for this car whether it be on eBay or on another website etc, in Australia the 500x is not all that common and so aftermarket parts are rarely available, I don’t want them to be solid black either but rather a darker tint, if you get what I mean ?

-Ive looked into rear lights tint already however 1.its illegal 2. I honestly don’t see it working aswell as I want it to and 3. They generally change the bulbs on the inside on the light unit with the darker lights so they’re brighter and easily visible from behind whereas the Tint obviously wouldn’t replicate this

I’ve formally posted a topic regarding projector lights As well however they’re not common either so I’ll be going the HID bulb route, if anyone has any information regarding either of these two topics please post below and all comments will be much appreciated as always

Thank you’s once again for any contribution

If the tinting makes it any harder to see the lights, it will be illegal. And a modification your insurance company is unlikely to approve.

Why do you want to tint them ? Just curious.

Honestly, I think they would look better, my car is white and I’m going for the black on white kinda setup, I got the idea from a Ford Focus with smoked taillights [emoji23] and there’s a certain limit of tint allowed in aus it’s just that the bulbs would need to illuminate more to compensate

The reflectors on the back below the tail lights are extremely ugly in my opinion, only because I hate cars that don’t have them built into the light setup themselves so I’ll be tinting those black aswell, rear lights aren’t that bad but the reflectors will be tinted

It is not illegal to black rear lights, or give them a smokey appearance. There are rules about it but I am not sure what they are.

Vauxhall did it themselves to the Astra G. The later SRi models (I had a 2.2 one) had smoked rear lights out of the factory and they did look good.

Obviously the rules in Australia will be different to those in the UK.

The ones smoked from the factory would conform to certain regulations.

If you buy some yourself - they may but more likely will not.

And they certainly would be viewed as a modification by the insurance company.

I am not suggesting that the insurance company wouldn't see it as a modification. However, the point I am making is that it is entirely possible to still confirm to regulations (in the UK at least) whether the smoked lenses are done in a factory or as part of a modification.

I saw a thread on another forum that I am having trouble finding now. But someone did it themselves and researched the whole legality thing. I am certain it's like tinted windows. X-amount of light has to be passing through and in the case of light/lens colours when illuminated, they cannot be substantially altered.
