Has anyone with an auto had any issues with your box saying it is in reverse then just revving and eventually it asking to be put into neutral, park, and into drive again.

Slowing down coming up to a junction it gives the impression it is going to stall and chugging a bit and on occasion actually stalling.

Sitting at a junction or slow traffic engine hunting slightly (like an airflow meter going) and again this can trigger the car gong into neutral

Taking an unusually long time to change gear when in normal mode (not sport) and not engaging sixth until it is over 50 mph. We have had ours is 4 times now to be told the are a trait of the box and I've never came across this on any auto I've ever driven, and it's been a lot.

Had my 1.4 DCT 6 speed for 6 mths now and never experienced any of the problems you describe. Looking through various postings on other problems it seems a software update seems to cure most of them and maybe that is the case here.

Just a thought but what type of fuel do you use. I normally use Shell but when I filled with another make I did notice a drop in performance and the engine wasn't as happy sounding.

Software update was indeed done, top of the gearbox changed, gear lever changed, different fuel used. Turning into a nightmare for dear sake. But thank you for your input. It's all appreciated

Hi you don't state which auto box you have?
I've the 2lt 500X with the 9 speed auto box and never experienced any of the issues you've mentioned.
I would certainly get back to the dealer as it seems there is definitely something amiss with you auto.

I also have the 9 speed auto (which works completely differently to the 6 speed I believe) and in almost 20k miles have never experienced anything like the issues described

The dealer has given us a diesel 4x4 X as a courtesy car. As you say, the 9 speed is a completely different way of working. Have to be honest though, the diesel is a bit rough sounding and noisier in the cabin than what I would have thought.

I have the 2.0 diesel 4x4 auto and when I took delivery it was incredibly rough when cold. It took 3 months but this was eventually traced to a faulty sensor in the Common Rail.

Now fixed I can honestly say that mine is neither rough nor noisy, it is actually much quieter than I expected for a diesel. And for info, fuel consumption is regularly 45-47 mpg but did hit 51 mpg twice!!

20k miles now and I love it

Just had a call from the dealer. This time they were able to interrogate the software deeper than the last 3 times and have found 203 issues logged in reverse, 42 in first, 37 in sixth and 51 in neutral. At least they now know there are issues and that is excellent news.

Might be time for a new gearbox :)

The good news is that Fiat are quite happy to spend thousands fixing the 500X faults under warranty as they treat it as a 'learning excercise'
