Very interesting to read your comment PandaLounge.

I am not in the market for a 500X, but if the 1.6 E-torQ is competent enough then it could save some people a bucket load of money as it is of course way cheaper than the other engines in the range.

It's like the 1.2 in the 500 and Panda, it's still by far and away the most popular engine in the UK even though it's about 75 years old!:):D

Hi

Once it's run in its actually quite a good engine. I found that at the top end it became very lively and belied it's 110bhp.

Remember it was used in the BMW Mini from 2001-2006 and was good enough for the Cooper. Fiat have since improved it and got better efficiency and (if I recall) changed the iron block to alloy.
Just order a 1.6 E Torq pop star as an upgrade from my 1.2 panda. Hopefully the engine is good!

This report suggests that BMW didn't think much of the Tritec engine, although it was reckoned to be more reliable than the Prince engine that BMW replaced it with. (I had the Prince engine in my DS3. Fantastic when it was working properly, but mine cost Citroen £££ in warranty work, and the problems were never fully sorted).

The cast iron Tritec lump was reckoned by Mini owners to be unburstable, so if Fiat have gone for an alloy block, let's hope they've not ruined one of that engine's principal virtues.
