I have a 2016 500x 2.4 Auto AWD. Unfortunately someone hit the rear of the car. Everything has en repaired but after the accident, I began having a problem with the capless fuel system. The tank will fill to a little les than half and shut off. After that the shut off on the gas nozzle keeps tripping. The dealer has replaced (free of charge) the neck, filler mechanism and charcoal canister.

The thought is that for some reason the seal is being broken. We have tried several different pumps with no real success. Everything was normal with the car before the accident.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Any suggestions ?

Hi, and welcome..that's certainly a little odd,

are they 100% certain that the tank isn't deformed.. so the capacity is limited..??

The nozzle only shuts off the fuel when fuel reaches the tip so it sounds like somewhere the pipe work must be kinked for fuel to come back up the spout to stop the fuel flow. Or is there a vent pipe bent or blocked leading back up to the filler cap?

odd how they can get @30% of the tank filled before this issue..

either a breather issue .. or the tank itself is crumpled inside:eek:

lets hope Asantoro can get a result , and inform us of the remedy,

Charlie

Turning the nozzle to the side or slightly pulling it out and resting it on one of the notches might do the trick.

Thanks for the info. I've tries turning the nozzle in different directions but none of that worked. As far as kinks in the neck, that was replaced by the dealer. I just came from the station. with 2 gallons in the tank, I could put about 3 gallons in before it shuts of. After that, I'm only able to put in a half to 1.5 gallons in at a time very slowly before the nozzle shuts off. It does sound like gas is backing up in the neck for some reason. I'm told that the gas tank itself was not affected in the accident.

Does anyone have any technical information of the gas tank construction itself, Perhaps there is a baffle that is blocking the neck?

I really have no other complaints about the car. It's been great to drive.
