Technical Where's the f'ing fuse box

Access is probably much easier on lhd cars, which of course accounts for most that are made.

I'm still confused on this. I have a LHD model (Live in the US) and it's still unclear where the inside fuse box is located. The manual says under the steering wheel, but I can't see anything like a fuse box in that area, and I don't want to take apart the whole underside just to find nothing there.

The manual sucks and is basically useless . I think they lifted that location from the 500L as someone else mentoned. Is it possible that the inside fuse box is located behind the glove box like the RHD version? Can anyone confirm?

Yes, the manual could do with a picture, but it says "The controller is located at the left side of the steering column at the bottom of the instrument panel."
Could you attach a picture of that area of your car?

Don't have enough posts to add a picture yet. Here's a link, but you'll have to replace the xx's with t's and a c

TL;DR: Could not find a switched fuse in the dashboard fuse box, anyone know such a fuse? If not, can I wire a dashcam to the engine fuse box, where such a fuse exists?

Hi everyone (sorry for the bump),

I'm also trying to to fit a dash cam to my mother's 500x. I'm also struggling with the fuses - I'm searching for a switched fuse that is powered only when key is turned. I intend to piggyback such a fuse.

I have attached an image showing my fuse box. This is not from owner's manual I have, but from a manual I have found online. My manual doesn't describe all the fuses, but the ones that it does describe, fit the description of what I have found and attached.

I have only tried some of the windows fuses, and they are constantly powered, which means they are unsuitable. It is very difficult to try other fuses - the dashboard fuse box is hardly accessible.

Does anyone know whether a switched fuse exists in the dashboard fuse box?
If not, has anyone tried piggybacking a fuse (the cigarette lighter fuse) in the engine fuse box?

Thanks in advance!

I have hardwired my dash cam, however my one required both switched and hot (always on) fuse + obviously earth cable (usually black in dashcams)

The fuses on the left are all switched the ones on the right are hot.
Easy to check with multimeter if you have one.
I have connected to the first fuse from top on the left hand side and everything works fine.
You will need long nose pliers and some skill to remove the fuse and add the piggybank.

Thanks everyone!

I used the lowest red fuse (F31 - Fan Air Conditioning, Power Socket). I verified that the description is correct by taking it out and ensuring that the air conditioner actually stopped working when ignition is on.

I would not recommend using the topmost left fuse (F37 - System Power Forward Collision Warning Plus, All Wheel Drive (AWD), IPC, Central stack switches, Brake Pedal Switch (NC)). According to its description it is important, and I would not want to interfere with its operation.

What I did not 100% check (and would be happy if someone could enlighten us) is what is the "hot" side of fuse F31 socket. It is possible to connect the piggy-back wire the wrong way, so I hope I got the right orientation. I only tested socket F47 which is on the right column, and forgot to double check F31 socket).

I attached some pictures that show where is the fuse box, how I tapped the F31 fuse, how I got ground connection and where I stored the hardwire kit itself (aka the 12V to 5V converter) and its remaining cables.

The hardwire kit is from VIOFO. There are two versions, one with just two wires, and one with 3 for cameras with parking mode. In general, when choosing a kit I recommend going with a known brand - it should withstand the heat and vibrations. VIOFO should be good from what I have read online.
