I've been looking to purchase a dashcam and wondered if anyone has fitted one yet. I've seen that Twobigdogs has one but it uses a sucker mount. Ideally I'd prefer a mount that's stuck to the windscreen with tape and is as unobtrusive as possible.
I've used the Mini 080x series before and was really happy with the one I had (mini 0801 I think) but the reviews seem to highlight a problem with quality control on the newer models.
On my last car there was a sunshade running across the top of the windscreen that allowed me to hide the mounting gubins from prying eyes. The 500x doesn't have this and also there is large plastic case behind the mirror that prevents it from being hidden there easily.
Anyone else fitted one?

It hides behind the mirror quite well.

Hmm you're not wrong. It's just a bit lower than I'd like but it's certainly worth another look.

Are these hard wired in or have you go them running from the power socket?

Just ordered a mini 0903. I'll post some pictures when I've fitted it.

Mine has the cable tucked behind roof lining and dash trim and plugged into 12v socket. Totally hidden and switches on and off with ignition.

Actually it was my plan to mount it w/o plastic cover, but it I think that it fitted better with cover on. Now there is no visible wiring at all :)

So I tried the Mini 0903 with mixed results.
Its definitely a work in progress camera, with a propensity to stop working when Im driving.
It just seems to lose power for no reason and then reboot a while later.
The supplier let me have a power lead that runs off the OBD port rather than the accessory port, but it seems to be live all the time and the DC wont power off.

Has anyone else come across this before?
I think the only real solution is to fit a hardware kit to the fuse box - again has anyone had any experience of doing this?

Thanks

I tried the same model but found the stop/start made it reboot.
Have you suffered with that?

I am not using start/stop that much but you are right that the camera reboots when starting. I don't see it as a big issue though. Lars

I find even with the stop start cutting in the internal battery in the cam keeps recording regardless with no interruption.

I thought that might be the case. Of course mine was the new improved model with the a super capacitor rather than a battery. When the power goes there's just enough power to write to the card and then it dies. Obviously the power loss when the car restarts is just too long.
There's progress for you. :)

Just fitted mine in the car.
It's a Transcend 220, used it in the Punto previously.
The video quality is excellent, even at night, you can check footage out on YouTube.
However, I have fitted it hard wired into the 12v socket in the centre console.
Took a bit of guessing with the panels on the dash, but I have the wire from the power adaptor running round and up on the drivers side under all the trim to above the rear view mirror.

4 messy shots of the panels removed. The last one is the camera. The only thing I don't like is the grey 3M pad I have used, ordered a black one instead.

Pedrolami - can't quite see how it's installed due to the reflections on the windscreen.
Any chance of a better picture on where you've installed it?
I find the mirror housing takes up a fair amount of space and it's difficult to position the dc without compromising visibility.

Also how does your dc deal with Stop/Start. Does it keep rebooting?

Tried to catch some improved shots bulgur this bright weather is not helping ?
The SS doesn't affect the camera at all, however I suspect this buddies to the voltage converter that is under the dash to power the camera.
When I stop the engine, the camera continues for a second or two before alerting that it is shutting down.

I've got a fair amount of plastic around the mirror that's missing from your pic- I guess it's because I've got the safety pack with all its electronic gubins.

I assume the voltage regulator you refer to is the hardwire power kit?
I've got one ready to install so hopefully that fixes it, but I notice it's got 3 wires, +v, gnd & acc. Have you connected all three?

Yeah, mine is standard. Although I am looking at getting an auto dimming one in the near future to work with a reverse cam.

As for the regulator, mine only had two wires, live and Earth. I expect with the three you just need to keep live and acc together on the 12v feed if your running it from the 12v socket.
