Guys, Ive purchased some Thule roof bars and a fitting kit for flush rails (assuming thats what the 500x cross has) but does it, and what are the silver lines on the roof actually called?

And how do I open them? to fit thee roof rack nothing in the manual.

Basically i cant get the kit to fit.

I have a Cross Plus that comes with the roof rails already fitted. If you have no roof rails (City / other models) then you will need to also source the roof rails from Fiat. They come as a bolt on kit in the appropriate colour which you have to specify.

That is the good news. The bad news is that the Thule Bars I fitted did damage to the finish of my roof rails. See this thread:

My bars were returned to Thule mid Dec 2017 and are currently being examined and I'm awaiting the outcome.

I haven't needed them for my 500X, but we got some Farad ones from Ebay to fit the roof rails on my wife's Suzuki. They seem to fit well, but I can't comment on possible paint damage as that car has a stainless type finish on the rails.

Thanks guys - s130 - yes I saw the Thule ones and wondered about them. We have the Cross Plus as well. The genuine Fiat ones seem to be only about £120 so may go for them. Anyone got a piccy with them on?

Sounds like the Fiat ones would be a good choice. They aren't a lot more than the Farad ones.

If any one is interested I have a new unused foot kit for the Thule bars for sale. It's the final bit that connects the 753 legs to the 500x roof bars

According to Moparonlineparts.com, the part number for the side rails should be 68281916AA. I don't think there are specific rails for Cross Plus, they should fit all versions. Not entirely sure that the US part numbering is the same as in Europe, though.

I think the Euro Part numbers are different - I have seen both 50927231 and 50927625 listed for 500X but not sure which one is OK for the Cross Plus.....or indeed the difference. The Fiat Accessories site lists another - 71807430 for the Cross Plus?!?

Even more confused now - The UK Accesories brochure has 71807430 - For Cross and Cross Plus versions only.

However it then states -

Silver Shining Railings
Set = Pair (LH+RH)
For Vehicles WITHOUT Production Longitudinal Roof Rails


Not sure about the Cross but the Cross Plus came with Longitudinal Roof Rails as standard?!?

Both the Cross and Cross Plus come with roof rails that run the length of the roof on either side. The only difference to this are for cars with a sun roof where I believe it is not possible to fit the rails. The 'City' range of cars do not have the rails but can be fitted as an extra (unless you have a sunroof). Hence the confusion with the part numbers. A 'City' car needs both the roof bars and the cross rails where as a Cross model only needs the pair of cross rails.

I'm planning to put the side rails on my Lounge and, from what I understand, there should be no problem in fitting them. But to avoid any confusion I would recommend consulting with the dealer regarding the specific part numbers.

I had to get replacement roof rails for my 500X Cross Plus.

I've not fitted mine yet but fitting will not be an issue. Each rail is secured by 4 bolts. The plastic rail end caps prise off revealing the front and back bolts. The centre plastic pop-in caps cover the centre two bolts.

The rails have felt edges that slot into the roof channel to seal the roof channel to rail edges.

Note! The colour SUNSHINE (Silver Shining) is the metallic looking dark silver/bronze finish. If you want the black then you will need a different kit.

Thanks! I was looking for this option. My Lounge has chrome window surround trim, so I was thinking about silver rails. Still, I need to see them in real life to make sure they will be a good fit.

As far as the official 500X accessories go then the roof rail kits seems to only come in the Silver Shining and Black.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a 500X with bright silver/chrome rails but this was probably one of the early 500X Special Edition models. If you want chrome the best/safest way to check on what is available is to find a 500X with Chrome rails note its registration and then ask a Fiat dealer. They should be able to link registration to VIN and correct model & options etc. which should give the definitive part numbers for exactly what you want.

Hopefully someone on this forum has a 500X with Bright Silver/Chrome roof rails and they will share their reg/VIN with you.

Yeah, chrome rails would be perfect in my case. I'll ask the dealer if such an option is available.

So, I asked the bodywork manager at the dealership about the options. This is what he gave me:

735606475, 735606476 - Matte Black
735615258, 735615261 - Sunshine (he spelled it as Subshine, probably a typo in the item description)
735679418, 735679419 - ???

So, there is definitely a third option, but unfortunately he was unable to tell me whether it's chrome or not, because that one had no description in the database.

So finally tracked down a set of Roof bars - Though mine were Part No.50927625 for the Cross Plus (so for cars already with the longtitudial bars). Slightly disappointed though by the amount of wind noise they produce over 50mph even though they are the factory ones? Anyone else noticed this?

Mine are P/N:50927231 also for 500X Cross Plus with longitudinal roof bars.
