I have got hold of a Sat Nav/DAB unit for a 500L Trekking, does anyone have info
on what leads or modification, I need to fit to my 500L in exchange for the standard radio, Please:):D

hi

whats the model of headunit you have and are swapping out with? i want to do same with my 500 (2017) 5in headunit and put a 7in with carplay.

As far as I am aware, all uConnect headunits use the same connector? They just need a proxi alignment to enable nav and whatnot to stop the odometer from flashing.

You can install the 5' and 6.5' models natively without any modifications, the 7' does require some trim modifications. You'll also need to do proxi alignment if you change models or go aftermarket (which will require various adapters and interfaces, which Ez2517 has found out)

The 7' requires the plastic trim to be cut or the plastic trim from the newer face lift models and then you got to be lucky to even find the 500L 7' unit for sale lol.

Perfect :D

I thought it would have been an easy proxi alignment.

I did notice that some people actually got the 7' model working on our 5' model so all that ******** the Fiat engineers are telling us about the body computer not accepting it is wrong

I saw this thread, where they replaced the frame (but you could cut the original frame) (I think from the translation) http://www.cinquecentisti.com/forum/uconnect-e-audio/68123-nav-7-pollici.html and then performing an proxi alignment with the nav model, similar to what you have done ;)

i'll look at forum but the proxi alignment part, any link to info on this?

many thanks

What is the proxy alignment

Proxi Alignment is basically the configuration of your car, which features does it have and which it doesn't have. You'll be able to change the features in multiecuscan with an elm327 clone (PIC chip) (modified with removed canbus resistor) or a genuine interface.

After your configuration is made, you'll be able to perform the proxi alignment, which your body computer will tell the radio receiver module - there is a new device that has navigation for instance if you change the nav type to true. This stores the new configuration in the body computer.

When the car detects a change with its current proxi alignment, the odometer mileage will start flashing and this is when you need to perform the alignment.

Using the natively supported h/w features

If the radio you have found has your desired features (Navi or Screen Mirroring) natively enabled (they have some hardware code on the device sticker), you should be good to go with just using MultiEcuScan and a modified ELM 327 / genuine ELM 327 with the yellow A3 service adapter to change the proxi code for the radio type to the navi model and then perform the alignment. It might work, if not try the other models until one does work but I believe it was the nav model type from my last recall.

Adding additional functionalities (e.g. CarPlay)
https://www.giuliaforums.com/thread...d-auto-apple-carplay.46071/page-5#post-800162

If you want to enable Android Auto / CarPlay / Any other features, you will need to use a modified ELM327 or genuine ELM327 on multiecuscan to modify some bytes in the proxy code. The bytes might change depending on the car model but on the giuliaforums for the Alfa Romeo Giulia. These are unknown for our 500L as I haven't seen anyone here talking about those but we do know there are dumps of proxi codes online but changing bytes unnecessarily will potentially brick the body module.

Nevermind that, we are already messing around too much by using the unsupported uConnect 7 on our body module which for some reason allows the uConnect 7 to function. So I wouldn't recommend changing the Proxi to add new features to the uConnect 7.

The PROCSI is then updated and then you need the official Fiat FCA WiTech 2.0 Scan tool and probably a dealer log-in, as well as the WiTech, which is a garage subscription tool for Fiat dealers.

Also, uConnect Live will be tied with the previous car's VIN, it might not work natively and will require a competent dealer to change it on their database to your VIN.

TL: DR
So adding any new features to the head unit or use the live capabilities is long-winded if you that is what you are planning. If you wish to just use the features which come hardware supported by the head unit - that will be fine with a standard proxi alignment in multiecuscan.

There are other programs as well such as AlfaOBD which also support proxi alignment on our car, they have an android app, which I use with my portable Bluetooth ELM327 dongle but MultiEcuScan is probably the most used one around as it contains much more functions than AlfaOBD.

Warning about ELM327
Most ELM327 devices will not communicate with the car's CANBus network as around 90% are clones with fake chips. If you're going the fake route, you can buy one with a PIC18F25K80 chip and then see the image if it has a canbus resistor (120/121) to remove. You can get premade modified ones on popular marketplaces but they cost twice the actual cost of a fake or buy a genuine dongle.
