Hi, does anyone know which connector on the battery is the auto stop start one? Some have said on here that it can be reset by removing then replacing the cable. I'm replacing the battery in my 500L trekking this week but will connect using jump leads so that the radio code etc shouldn't have to be reinserted. I wouldn't mind giving the auto stop start a reset though if possible. The positive terminal seems to have a few cables coming off it.

The battery condition sensor may be mounted on an alloy plate that is connected to the clamp that fits onto the battery negative terminal and then there's a small connector block with a couple of wires from it that disappear to the car's brains.

The alloy plate has a small pole connected to it (13mm nut) which serves as the clamp for the lead that goes to earth. Of you remove the earth cable from the pole (it will have a little red push-button to remove it) then clean up the pole with some de-greaser/contact spray and a bit of wire wool/light sandpaper then that will maintain a good connection.

You might as well also unbolt the pole from the plate and clean both the mating surfaces.

Removing the earth connection will reset everything. You'll need to re-enter the date/time etc. on the console.

If your battery/S&S is later, then the pole for the earth clamp attached to the negative terminal won't be there. Instead you will have a third / "false" negative pole on the other side of the battery to the positive and negative battery terminals. It has a kind of cam clamp on it.

This false pole is for jump-starting the battery. I think it's there to prevent current spikes from passing through the battery condition sensor.

To reset this style of battery condition sensor you just need to remove the regular negative clamp and then re-fit it after 20 minutes or so..

Thank you for the helpful response.
I changed the battery over (with a brand called Yuasa I bought on Amazon) and I was going to connect it to my other car with jump leads so as to not lose the radio settings etc. but in the end I just took the old battery out and put the new one in and it was only disconnected for a few minutes.
When I started the car up it had remembered all of the radio settings and didn't require the stereo code! The only thing I had to set was the clock.
I did notice that one of the headlight bulbs had gone so changed that over and all good (it may have gone the day before).
The stop start function seems to be working really well again now which is great!
