Hi, I changed my cabin air/pollen filter today on my 500L Trekking (doesn't look like it had ever been done as caked in dirt!). To do this I moved the two clips from the sides of the lower glove box to gain access and as I was removing the pollen filter the glove box fell all the way down and I noticed there was a small clip attached to a string (almost like a very thin shoe lace). To me it looks like this is just there to prevent the glove box from completely lowering when you've removed the clips but does anyone know if it has any other purpose? I'm not too sure what it connects to inside the car and does anyone else know what the white horizontal cylindrical thing is behind the glove box, is it used to inflate the air bag? I put the two main clips back into the glove box and it opens and closes fine so am guessing I don't need to be concerned about the string?

Thankyou for this. Mine came disconnected when I changed the cabin filter. Do you know if there's a way to re-thread it into the white cylinder or is it not worth it? If they were not too expensive I could buy another but it still seems to open and close ok.

If you pull on the string it will be tight that's how it should be and there should be a clip attached that attaches to the box. It's a bit awkward but if yours is functioning ok without I wouldn't bother with the hassle.

Mine is still connected at the glove box end and has unfortunately come undone at the white cylinder end. I guess I'll just leave it as don't think I'd be able to re-thread it through there.

I eventually bought a new one from FIAT and had to be shipped in from Italy. Was just over £20 and an easy fix removing one and fitting the new one.
