Hi

yesterday driving in high winds on an exposed section of motorway doing 70mph and with a roof box on top the car was rocked suddenly side to side. The check engine light came up and the car slowed as it went into a safety mode. I pulled in and turned off the engine. Turning it on and off 4 time reset it and no more problems since. I am assuming it is a safety feature of some sort. I'm interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this.

Were you on Cruise control at the time?

We've had it a couple of times where we've been on a long steep incline on cruise control and not noticed the engine was labouring and the dash was indicating I should change down.
After ignoring it for a while it does this to save any damage to the engine.

I took the car back to the garage. They said the fault was occurring due to a pressure drop in the engine oil. There was a leak from a seal which they replaced. That seemed to sort it for about a week. Now the warning light is coming back on. I will take it back to the garage tomorrow and see what they can do.
