Technical 500l diesel cambelt

When should the cambelt on a 500l 1.6 diesel be changed? Many thanks in advance.

1.6 is a belt.

Most newer cars say 100,000 miles but I’d Ben inclined to not let it go past 70,000

The handbook will tell you. I've seen various figures quoted.. from 60,000 to 72,000 for my 1.9 JTD. It seems to depend on the climate and the precise model year.

If it was my old beast and I had no idea at all, I'd go for the safe option of 60k or every 5 years.

Also change the tensioner, pulleys and the water pump.

My owners manual states that the belt has to be replaced after 120.000 km / 6 years, whatever comes first.
