2014 500L with a few problems

i just joined the site and got a 2014 500L 1.4 manual for a new daily from a family member that just got a brand new car. the fiat has 41k on her. has a few problems id like to sort out. im new to fiats so please explain in steps.

the nav doesnt work. stats it needs some sort of code? how would i go about fixing that? the family member before got the car 2nd hand so they are no help in that matter

the tire pressure sensors. im guessing they dont work, anyway to turn them off so i dont get all the lights and warning on the dash?

2nd to last problem is when i drive it at times it feels like its got good pick up and go. pulls hard and then other times it feels like dog sh*t. i noticed when its got good pick up you hear the turbo more and when it doesnt go worth a sh*t you dont. i dont notice no other changes other wise. just feels like a non-turboed motor at when it does that,

thanks for the help!

Re: 2014 500L with a few problems

Hi and welcome to the world of FIAT

Ok.

Sat nav.. not sure .. but there are links on the forum :ICE section

Tyres: possibly worth scrolling through the MENUs to see if there are options.

Engine: sounds like youve got a split hose to me

Youve got a relatively unusual FIAT..
And tech I have no direct experience of.
(THE POPE KNOWS MORE..)

The forum is FULL of info..and great people though.

So I suggest having a go with the excellent SEARCH feature.

Motor is probably 't.jet' grandepunto

Nav. 500x (or bravo)

TPMS. 500 section (or Abarth)

There is also a TECH thread.. but I would use that if needed .. after the other busier sections.

Where are you based?

As plugging into MULTIECUSCAN could well tell you a lot.

A split intercooler hose..

Or an engine regulating issue.

Worth resetting the engine ECU by removi g the battery grou d cable for a few hours.

Reverting to factory settings maybhelp with the engine

What would a split hose feel like? Any odd sounds? And maybe where I should look?

Re: 2014 500L with a few problems

A split hose would be audible if someone revved the engine slightly while you were under the bonnet (but take care not to get sucked in to any pulleys etc.).

If you find the airbox inlet and trace the pipes all the way to the inlet manifold, then you will have covered the totality of the intake pipework. If the pipes are metal or hard plastic, then check around the joints... look for oil around the joints which would be oil mist seeping out.. or feel for any "air" while the engine is revved slightly.

Your tyre TPS could just need a reset. If your relative fitted new tyres and didn't have the TPS reset then the calibration will be out, hence the errors. The re-set procedure may be described in the manual, but a tyre place ought to know how to do it. It's probably identical to Jeep Renegade, so there's nothing particularly strange about it, just because it's a Fiat.

SatNav might need a code, although I can't imagine why... (but I'm not familiar with the US-spec'... could be it did something GPS'y and needs a subscription service or something). Your best bet for that is a Fiat main dealer (i.e. not "specialist") since it could be a specific equipment issue.

Re: 2014 500L with a few problems

Regarding TPMS, do we know whether the 2014 500L uses pressure sensors in the wheels, or whether the car just compares the wheel rotations ? Should be described in the user's manual I guess ... (my 2014 does not have TPMS at all)

I have changed the tyres twice in our 500L MPW (2015) Lounge and there is no TPMS sensor, it is based on wheel rotations.

However, some cars have a TPMS sensor with part 53104671.

My manual refers to TPMS as iTPMS (indirect Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) which is based on the speed of each individual's wheel spin, if one wheel is spinning slower then the rest, it will warn with the tyre pressure (right/left) and (front/rear) wheel. It uses the ABS wheel spin sensors.

Some manuals refer to TPMS as TPMS, which is the direct variant where the sensors are placed on the valve with that part (53104671).

Whenever you rotate the tyres or change them you should reset it through the dashboard menu so that the system can relearn the wheel spin parameters or reset the valve sensors. If you have TPMS (direct variant in the valve), and have changed the valve it should be automatically relearn after driving. If it does not and you may have replaced this with aftermarket valves (which are compatible) then you can use MultiECUscan to set the individual valve radio identification for each tyre (which is on the back of the valve).

And if your car was produced before the EU ruling on TPMS being a requirement, then it was a optional feature (I believe?)

Re: 2014 500L with a few problems

I hope you changed your air filter. Easier if you cut the factory band off and replace it with a 75mm or 3inch hose clamp. Just take some pliers or cutters and squeeze and bend the part up that is higher, that was bent over. it'll make sense when you look at it. then four screws and you can lift it up and to the right. The fiat dealer filter is about 60 bucks.
