Hello. Wondering if anybody could help. Had to have my windscreen replaced and had a heated one fitted (they ordered the wrong one, payed for a non heated one) Would it be possible to connect it up? I have removed the panel under the windscreen and there are two leads coming from the screen. The are no wires to connect them to. I have notice in cars that have the heated screen they are switched with the rear screen. Does this mean that I could just splice into the cables going to the rear or does it require changing the switch and installing a new circuit with relays etc. Want to know if it’s worth doing. Thanks

Hi,
Welcome to Fiat Forum.
You certainly cannot just connect the windscreen heater in parallel with the rear screen. The both draw a lot of current and adding the front would overload the circuit for the rear. The fuse should blow but you might also cause other damage. You would have to look at the workshop systm (eLearn) to see if it needs just a relay or an electronic control unit but the eLearn for the 500L does not seem to be available. The simple opton would be to add a fuse, relay and switch to control the front screen. Connect the coil of the relay in series with the switch to the rear screen. This means the timer for the rear screen and warning light also work for the front and it goes off with the igniion. you could omit the switch if you don't mind the front coming on all the time. The fuse, relay contact and front screen element connect in series with the battery and chassis.

Thanks Robert. My assumption was that it completely separate as the only info i have found is in the hand book. I would like it to be factory finish (no extra switches) so i will keep researching before i do anything. thanks again for your response.
