I think my 500L 1.3 multijet will shortly require new pads and discs front and rear. It has done 36,000 miles, which whilst low, seems typical for the car.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on the best pads and discs for the car (Fiat or otherwise) and an idea of how much it will cost.

These are not High performance cars and don't have any sort of specialist brakes, you would be fine with some brand name parts from the nearest motor factors/parts supplier.

Costs for discs are likely to be about £20 ish each and a set of pads £20 - 30.

This is something that can be easily done yourself on the drive way with a fairly basic tool kit, or cost about £100 if given to a garage to do and supplying your own parts.

What can be a bit tricky sometimes is to replace the pads on the axle where the handbrake is. On VWs you need a special tool. On my latest car, a Citroen C4 Picasso, you needed a OBD2 computer to send to the car the command to open the parking brake. I guess you don't need that for the 500L, but it might be worth asking someone who definitely knows (since the 500L can close the brake electronically). And also whether you need a special tool.
