Hello all - New member (sort of)

I have a few Fiats; both classic and modern. Currently having a strange issue with my 2014 500L Trekking. I say currently, but my wife thinks its been going on almost since new.

I have noticed on some windy roads after driving the car a while, the EPS seems to just change dramatically. Never fails really ,just sort of changes on its own. The steering just goes from a nice firm (low assist) to super easy. Annoying to dangerous depending on my driving style at the time. I also noticed last night at a stop, the wheel sort of feels like it "stutters" in my hand when I put just a tad bit of pressure one direction or the other. It is very mild. My wife however claims the car pulls one way or the other while on road going fast or slow. It can be left or right and not consistent so I don't think it is suspension or tire, etc., Of course at the dealer, the car behaves so no love there.

Anyone else experience the same?

I hope I don't sound like a complainer :) I have a 2013 Abarth and NEVER experience this EVER and I drive the poop out of that car, track it, autocross, etc.,

Thanks,
Tim

Had an issue a bit like that with the croma we had previously. Occasionally the power assistance would just drop out. Suddenly making the steering incredibly heavy.(usually when negotiating a roundabout or some equally inconvenient time!)
I was worried it would be horrifically expensive to fix but in the end was just a fault connection on the connector to the PAS pump. Cost about £70 as I recall for a replacement cable/connector including fitting.
I suppose the other possibility with the 500L is if it's lurching in and out of 'city' mode. Have you noticed if the city light comes off and on when this happens?

Hi Tim,
how many miles..??
it's quite possible that here is an element of wear. and the torque sensors are struggling to keep things balanced..,

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for the reply - car has less than 10k - I think just under 9k actually. I don't think it's typical wear. My wife barely drives it more than 10 miles 2-3 times a week at best.

Meanwhile, the Abarth is about to hit 40k - no issues :)

Not sure what the city light is, but I will research it and keep an eye out. If it is a cluster or CEL light, then no. I haven't seen anything pop up.

I will download the manual and read up some...I need to find out the max amperage the AC outlet (US model) will handle. In all her wisdom, my wife decided to plug a vacuum into the rear AC outlet. The outlet worked for about 5 seconds and shut off. I can get it to provide power again after off/on with the key. It provides enough power to charge my daughters mac book air which is good enough for me but would like to know the limits :)

Thanks,
Tim
