Hi, I wonder if anyone could help me please?

I am trying to hardwire my dashcam. I have one of those piggyback fuse things that give you an extra fused supply from an existing fuse. I am trying to identify a suitable fuse in the passenger fuse compartment behind the glovebox.

Unfortunately, all the fuses I have tried are either on all the time or only on when the circuit in question is in use. I need a circuit which turns on and off with the ignition.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

It does but, according to the manual, it is located in the engine bay fusebox. I didn't want to have to run a cable through the bulkhead into the engine bay if I didn't have to.

Thanks

I wasted many hours trying to find a suitable fuse without success. None of the fused lines in that particular fusebox turn off with the ignition.

In the end I just used a wire splice clip to tap in to the power supply running to the 12v socket as suggested already.

Just pull the 12v socket/cup holder surround out (don't be afraid to use some force), splice the wires then run the cabling behind the dash.

There is a void - there is no need to remove any trim except from the 12v socket/cup holder surround and the glove box door.

Don't forget that it will be 12v running through the wires - you will need to use a hardwiring kit or similar to convert it to 5v for the dash cam.

Hope this helps.

I was afraid that might be the case. I didn't want to splice the loom if I didn't have to but, no problem. All done now.

Thanks for the help everyone, much appreciated.
