The wife's Panda went in with the engine warning light on for the second time in just over a month. Turned out that the local dealer had overfilled the oil and caused it to spill on a sensor in the induction manifold. During its first service. Anyway, while waiting for the keys to be returned I spied a 500L MPW with £5k off list. Well it would have been rude not to wouldn't it.

I've never fancied a stretched 500 before. It wasn't even on my radar. But the old Renault scenic is going to have to find a new home now.

This was all down to the garage not having a loan car for me. I had to drive the wife over to pick her Panda up.

Any of you bought on a whim?

Congratulations on your new car! :) What colour/spec is your MPW?

We went to test drive a 500X but the next day ordered a 500L instead. Not quite an on-the-spot purchase as I'd done a lot of research first, but we went in pretty certain the X was for us and were surprised not to like it very much. So our original plans went out the window pretty quickly lol.

I first saw the 500L 2 years ago when buying our Panda and was drawn to it then, but we didn't have the budget and thought the Panda would be fine for a small family. Now we're trading in said Panda as we really do need more space!

Gone for a Pop Star. We have a pop Panda and have been disappointed in how basic the trim was. Who would have thought that they'd scrimp on the glove box lid. But the Panda, otherwise is a lovely car. I can't imagine why anyone would buy a standard 500 and get less accommodation for so much more money.

The other thing with a Panda. Why do a four seatbelt version? Even though our kids are grown up there are occasions when we need to transport the grandchildren. The five seatbelt version is only a couple of quid extra.

The equivalent trim levels on the 500L are much more generous than those on the Panda. We have the top-end Panda Trekking trim and it's very basic compared to the Lounge trim 500L we've ordered. Not even split-fold rear seats, which has turned out to be a real pain as we could have done with some extra space while still having our toddler in the car.

I know what you mean about the 4 seatbelts on the Panda. We would have got the extra one, but ours wasn't a factory order and we didn't want to wait 3 months just for that. Recently I wanted to take my mum out to a family dinner but there's nowhere for her to sit safely so we had to arrange 2 trips which felt a bit daft lol.

The MPW will give you more than enough space in comparison. Does yours have the extra 2 seats or just the larger boot space?

We were lucky to have an in-stock MPW with a really good discount. It has the five seats and 1.4 engine. I'm not bothered about the seats but could have done with a bigger engine.

That's the same engine we've gone for. Would have picked the twinair or the t-jet if either were still available, but hopefully the 1.4 is good enough. Didn't give us any issues on the test drive, though it's definitely not as pokey as the twinair in our Panda!
