General Status 30 to 40?

Had contact from the dealer today telling me my car had arrived at the dealer. It's all registered and I asked if Wednesday will still be possible to pick it up. Fingers crossed x

Why have they registered it before you pick it up? I work in a fiat dealer and we register the car the day of handover, in fact it gets registered after the customer has signed the afrl and they are sitting in the showroom.

No idea as I'm not the dealer. I assume it's to do with the 'registered before the end of March' deal I got. I'm not in the country and the earliest I can pick it up is next week, which is April. I want the deal, so registered it is.

Good news! Have you had the log book/V5C yet? I'm impressed with the sound of your dealer - regular phone updates and they haven't appeared to register the car weeks in advance like many dealers do. Top marks!

I reckoned 2 weeks ago that it'd be with you between 2-3 weeks & a month - I've impressed myself! ;)

That was indeed a good estimate! :D

No logbook yet. Hubby did sign the finance paperwork a couple of weeks ago, but that's because the deal we had ended March 31st. So I don't know if that means they've actually registered it, or just put it through their books as sold in March so it can be included in their quarterly targets. Interestingly, we did find out what the reg plate will be that day.

Our salesman has been pretty good. Although he's on holiday next week, he's going to be checking in for updates for us. I suspect he's got a nice bit of commission from our purchase. :D We could have got a better deal trading in our Panda, and typically there was an interest-free offer about 2 weeks after we ordered, but we did get a couple of freebies and I know you don't get as good deals on factory orders anyway.

We seem to be lucky to have a good couple of dealers around here - Desira in Diss were also very helpful when we test drove one of there cars. Of course, the proof is in the aftersales and although we've only had one issue with our Panda, Glyn Hopkin dealt with it swiftly and without question.

Logbook has just turned up in the post. Registration date was 31st of March, so at least the dealer waited until the last day event though hubby signed the docs on the 21st.

Now it's been taxed, I do hope it arrives soon. Really feels like our new car actually exists now lol! :D

I completely understand the finance paperwork needing to be signed off before the end of the month/quarter, but I find the taxing before a car's even arrived at the dealer completely wrong. Fair enough if the deal was signed on that basis, but otherwise no.

When I worked at a Fiat dealer we'd do the same, but since the warranty starts from the date of registration and (where applicable) the car tax, I often asked the sales staff if the customer had agreed to it. In the end it was one of several reasons why I left - I just don't think that when someone's spending £10k plus on something, that a dealer should be starting the warranty and tax (and depreciation) before the customer even sees the car.

It's as much the manufacturers fault as anyones, because they determine whether targets have been hit based on cars registered by month-end, but it's still wrong.

And if the first finance payment has been taken too, I'd be wanting a free service. Bang out of order that is :(

I know what you mean and I'm not going to be impressed if we don't have it by mid-April. Luckily the first payment isn't due until later in the month (Fiat called today because the DD info was wrong), but I would certainly be having words with the dealer if we get near that point and still have no car. Though I suppose it doesn't matter in the great scheme of things as the total price will be the same regardless of when we make the payments, just doesn't feel right paying for something we haven't got.

It hadn't occurred to me that the warranty has already started. This I find more concerning than the tax and finance starting early as it would be sod's law we'd need to make a claim on it right after at the end! I think we might have to bring that up with the dealer on collection day as it really should take effect from the point we take delivery.

The tax doesn't matter so much with the lower CO2 band vehicles as it's only £0-£30, but for yours it's probably something like £145 a year. When doing a first registration & taxing on AFRL (Automated First Registration & Licensing), for tax bands over £30 the dealer can add 'extra weeks' so that if they're registering part way through a month, the expiry date of the tax will still be the same as if they taxed it from the start of the next month (if that makes sense), so in theory your tax should still expire at the end of March 2017, like it would do if they'd taxed it during April, so hopefully you won't need to tax it a month 'early' next year.

The finance in your case also shouldn't matter but I was concerned that cctesta had already made the first finance payment. It sounds like they've held-off collection due to holidays, which is fair enough, but I wouldn't usually expect the first finance payment to take place till about 2-3 weeks after collection of the vehicle. If any concerns regarding this I'd contact the finance company who are more than likely FCA Automotive Services (formerly FGA Capital).

It's the warranty that bugs me most as, like you say, it'd be typical that you need to submit a claim towards the end of the warranty (after taking the car for a first MOT for example) and whilst Fiat can show some flexibility, they're not obliged to help once the warranty has ended. Obviously if it started before you were using the car, this isn't really fair unless in the case of things like pre-reg or other stonking deals where the price paid makes up for the lesser level of cover.

Anything up to a week or two I'd just about put up with, but anything longer than two weeks I'd be onto Fiat UK & say you want the warranty extending or another form of compensation (ie first service free) to make up for it. It was a factory order, and they did you no favours on the trade-in value for the Panda, after all (even if you decided against trading it in).

Best of luck! :)

Yup, we're back to a higher tax bill unfortunately. Will miss paying just £20 for the Panda lol. It seems the dealer has given us some extra time as the gov website says it doesn't need to be taxed until April 1st 2017.

We'll definitely have a chat with the dealer about the warranty when collecting the car. Really don't want a nasty surprise in 3 years time....

Just checked my tax disc and we had an extra 2 weeks of tax

I think its time to clear out my glove box lol, its almost 2 years now

You sound just as bad as us lol. Had a major clearout a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of picking up the new car and found all sorts of crap I'd long forgotten about. :D

Just had a letter arrive from the finance company informing us the the PCP on the Panda has ended and the funds for the 500L have been passed to the dealer. First payment is due around the 30th.

Ooooooooh first payment means you won't get the car until then

Things are now falling into place. Jeez even I feel excited for you now lol

Keep us posted (sure it'll be one of the first things you do) shouldn't be much longer now

Hello

I've not paid a penny yet, not even a deposit. They will take my mums old Panda as a trade in, but on Thursday now as I have to go into work tomorrow. Today was a nice day, so I put the roof down on my car and I forgot about the extra day of waiting.

Noooooo! I'll go crazy if I have to wait that long! :D

It's so exciting seeing things happening. This week is going insanely slow though lol.

I shall most definitely be shouting from the rooftops when it arrives. :D

Aah, they did add extra weeks for you then, that's good :) Yeah I think I'd be well cheesed-off paying over £30 for car tax after owning a free one. These things happen though!

Oops, sorry. It's someone else who's already had the first payment taken and I read your post further back & had it in my head it was you. There's been so many people expecting delivery of new cars on here at the moment I can't keep up! Also rather jealous!

Still no car, spoken to dealer today and it's expected at the dealership this week. Then we can collect after 2-3 days. It will be 10 weeks since ordering on Thursday which I know is shorter than many people have waited, but still feels like forever lol.

Spoke to him about the warranty starting before we got the car. He said this was a result of the deal needing to be completed by the end of March. Although we were aware of that, we had no idea the warranty would also start then so a bit disappointed. Better hope that we don't discover a problem in three years!

Now just got to wait for the phone call saying they have the car....
