I have fiited a hard wired dash cam into my 500L MPW so decided to do a small guide to help others. This was very easy to do and took around 60 minutes.

You will need (can't post links, all are available from Amazon.co.uk )

  • A dash cam!

  • Hard wiring kit

  • Scotch clips x 2

Step 1
Remove the interior light by pulling down on it. It is held on by clips at the front and back.

Step 2
Remove the cup holder by pulling it up. Unclip the plug from underneath the socket. The wires we are going to use are black (neutral) and the white/red (live).

Step 3
Pull the rubber seal out from the driver’s door.

Step 4
Feed the cable through the exposed areas.

Step 5
Using scotch locks, secure the cables to the wires.

Step 6
Put it all back together and place your dash cam with its best view of the road

Thanks for that. It will be useful when we get our car shortly.
We've had front and rear cameras fitted in all our recent cars, and wouldn't be without them.
Instant evidence for the hopefully 'never' event of an accident.

We had a guy go into the back of our Nissan Elgrand last year at low speed here in Newcastle. No damage fortunately, but when I checked the SD card later, it showed him on his mobile at the time of the impact. Next time he might not be so lucky.

Is it legal in Britain to operate such cameras in public ? (here in Austria it is not legal). I know these cams are very popular in Russia, youtube is full of Russian dash cam videos )))

Yes they are legal in the UK and positivly encouraged by some police forces. I got a force to reconsider who to prosecute using the evidence from one.
