Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can explain how the USB port works on uconnect system. I have tried a memory stick with mp3 music tracks on it but uconnect does not recognise the device, I have it formatted to fat32 etc. but no luck, can anyone explain what the function of it is and am I doing anything wrong ( not being a techie geek)
The manual is very basic so not much help there!
Thanks guys. Davie

Just been out to check mine as I know it has worked in the past but in truth I never use it to play music on the USB, generally just to charge my phone.

I have checked my USB and it is formatted in FAT and the music file I put on to it was an MP3. Plugged it in and it read and played straight away. I do not have the time now to be messing around re formatting and transferring music files. If I get time tomorrow I will have a look unless somebody else comes up with an answer.

Thanks for going the extra mile chips1,
Given that yours works OK I suspect that there may be a fault somewhere on my side, just out of interest what make of memory stick are you using? Mine is a sandisk- perhaps uconnect will only recognise certain makes?? Anyway thanks for your prompt reply. DAVIE

Also doesn't seem to be any power coming out of USB port, can it be activated/deactivated through uconnect?
notice when I go to source on the screen only Bluetooth is highlighted - aux and USB are dulled out and not available.
Anyone else having problems ( or success) playing music from USB stick? Cheers Davie

Sounds like an issue with the USB then it would seem. I have power to the USB without the ignition on if I plug my phone into it.

I have formatted my USB to FAT and FAT32 and it reads both and plays the music fine.

I do not believe there is anything in the settings that will turn this on or off that I have seen.

Thanks chips1 , I was googling the problem and it appears a common fault on the fiat 500.
- back to the dealers then. Cheers Davie

Hi again, I read on the fiat 500 forum that disconnecting the battery temporarily for a few minutes will enable a 'reboot' and hopefully get my USB working again. Just looking for some advise on how to do this - will I have to remove both negative & positive or will positive alone do?
Thanks again . Davie

Not had much dealings with having to disconnect a car battery but my understanding is to remove negative first so maybe not such a good idea to just take off the positive.

Negative - Positive and then Positive - Negative.

You have your radio code in case it resets that

Thank you chips1, I will remove both of them to be safe. I have the radio code but most folks that had this problem say the unit retains the code in its memory, so we will see. Is the USB port permanently live to enable you to charge your phone?
Anyway will post to let you know if reboot worked. Cheers Davie

Hi all.

I think on mine, the usb port provides a live feed for about twenty minutes when you turn the ignition off. It's useful for leaving the phone on charge when I do a wee bit of shopping or something.

I'll try and remember to check, next time i'm sitting in the car waiting. (y)

lol I guess I will need to look at mine again.

I only assumed that it was permanently on as when I unlock the car and plug my phone in before doing anything else it starts to charge.

The 45 minutes battery disconnection didn't help. USB still not working, back to the dealers then!!! Thanks to all, Davie
