Anyone fitted roof bars to their 500L or 500L MPW Lounge model with the glass panoramic roof. Can it be done please????

I do not see why it couldn't be done with the glass roof, just a bit more care in putting them on would be needed. I would assume the holes are already there to use roof bars. I use them on mine but then I do not have the glass roof

I would need to check about the holes on the glass roof version as I do not own one yet. Was trying to find out before I purchased the lounge model with the glass roof if I could use my roof box. Can anyone check their model to see if the holes are there please?

I think this question comes up because IIRC the 500 with the large glass roof (like we had) was not recommended for fitting with the roof bars for that model.

From memory ours had the required holes though, even though it wasn't supposed to have the bars fitted.

Does sunroof mean panoramic roof though, but if you say that the holes were there, then I dont see why they couldnt be fitted? Would be nice to find out that someone has done this, as I want to buy the car soon and dont know if I need to go for the pop star model instead. But I really want the next model up if I can and need to put the bars on for camping.

Other than the panoramic roof I don't know of any other type of glass roof fitted to the 500L, (unless somebody knows different.) One type is opening I understand but it is still a full glass roof in both cases.

Pretty much the exact description as on the Fiat website.......just cheaper on Amazon or through Vospers. These are the ones I have and they fit perfectly, but again as being for the 500L you would expect that lol

Vospers say that as far as they know these bars fit all 500l's, so they should fit the 500l mpw lounge with glass roof

I am guessing that the strength of the roof beeing part glass will have hardly any difference to the solid roof, otherwise they wouldnt do them.

Hi chips1, I'm looking at a solution to get bikes to France this summer, roof bars look the best option (for security, and access to the boot). Did you fit yourself? Simple job?

Very very easy to fit, holes lined up perfectly, just need to remember to leave them slightly loose when fitting rather than tighten them as you go if that makes sense. I put a roof box on mine and had to use a stepladder to do it, surprising how high up it actually is lol

Which is worth thinking about @Faraday1786 if you are carrying bikes on the roof. It's a long way up to lift a couple of quite heavy bikes, might a rear tow ball mounted carrier be a better option? (obviously you'd need a bar and electrics first) but I'm not sure I would like to be lift my bike that high onto my 500L roof.

Hydraulically assisted racks can be had though which would help considerably, you would need to track one down compatible with the FIAT bars.

MJG- good point, taken on board. I might well regret it, but I'm taller than average, and standing next to the car I don't feel like I couldn't get the bike up (road bike, so it isn't too heavy).

Thanks for the advice and info - now if Fiat would just sort out that reverse gear, I'll be all set!

I've been wondering about this too - but is there enough clearance for the roof to open with them fitted? I'm wondering if this is why FIAT don't recommend fitting to the glass roof models.

just seen this post. in my handbook page 85 electric sun roof it states under a car safety symbol. DO NOT OPEN SUN ROOF IF A TRANSVERSE ROOF RACK IS FITTED. also says don't open if snow and ice on it. hope this helps?

It's bad when they have to take into account how stupid some people can be that would actually open the sun roof which is covered in snow not realising the consequence of doing it
