I live in a 4 season climate and have a 2014 fiat500L. Have only been driving with premium as it is "recommended" What do you put in your tank, do you change it with the seasons? Have you noticed a difference in performance?

Premium in the UK is often regarded as an unecessary expense, so no, bog standard unleaded from our local supermarket for us, all year round.

Premium every 3rd tank just to hopefully clean a little. Not too sure it does but it peace of mind for me

Our standard will be 95 RON which is probably what they call premium in the US. So, since this is a European car.. I'd run it on premium in the US.

Edit:

Looks like mid grade is equivalent to our standard.

In my testing it makes no difference paying for higher octane than this.

They are recommending premium in the same way they recommend 95 in the UK handbook, this is what the engine will have been developed for so they are trying to get us all to use similar fuel. A lot of imported vehicles into the US recommend premium for the same reason. There aren't any cars imported into the UK that recommend you use our premium? That is 100 RON and / or more?

spoke to the dealership and they cautioned me not to switch to regular gas due to the compression engine and "knocks" so sticking to premium. Thanks for your perspective, definitely got me thinking. And in extreme cold temps this car needs all the help it can get.
