Dual Clutch and overheating in heavy traffic?

As I read and learn about the 500L, I run across questions and internet searches aren't helping.

No I have not had this problem BUT if in a long traffic jam, like interstate stuff, how do you guys handle it?

Do you break, wait a few car lengths and then go...stop again repeat...

Do you keep it in 1st and try to average it out?

What works?

Thanks

Re: Dual Clutch and overheating in heavy traffic?

hi,
do you mean on a manual gear box ( stick shift..??),
or an AUTO,

if manual then yes TRY to average it out..,
also you MAY find the engine revs will come-up " automatically" to a good "pull-away" speed when raising the CLUTCH pedal in 1st gear from a stop,
MY TwinAir does this.. VERY helpful in heavy traffic ,
Charlie

Re: Dual Clutch and overheating in heavy traffic?

The auto dual clutch. Reading that if you do something, not sure what, the transmission will overheat and tell you to pull over for 6 minutes to cool off. So I'm asking, how does one drive "properly" to avoid this overheat condition in heavy construction...

Re: Dual Clutch and overheating in heavy traffic?

The DCT is designed to be used as any other transmission. It should not overheat in stop and go traffic. I have driven in heavy traffic every day since July when I brought my L home and have had no transmission issues with the DCT. This includes many 90+ (32+) degree days. It was designed with a creeping feature and other features specifically for traffic.

Re: Dual Clutch and overheating in heavy traffic?

I for got to mention this in my original reply. The identical engine and transmission powertrain package has been used in the US spec Dodge Dart for a while now and has a good record.
