500l diesel

Hi guys, went to look at a 500l at the weekend to maybe replace the croma.why cant Fiat offer a decent engine choice?A 1.6 diesel is not big enough for me,its not even the 120hp version of the 1.6 diesel which i could possible manage with.I really would have expected the 2.0 diesel as an option which if so i would have bought the car there an then as i really love it.Please Fiat wake up.

Re: 500l diesel

is it big enough to need a bigger engine? could always fit a TMC tuning box or get a remap for more power

Re: 500l diesel

Thats a valid comment Dave. But as we are we have well over 200hp with the croma diesel.Sadly the croma is not getting younger, and there is no way 105hp is going to do the same job.Caravan duties.Chiping or tuning boxs are fine but i,d prefere not to go down that route.I was pleasantly surprised how big it was in the flesh,i personally think its bigger than the croma.Vw offer a 2.0litre diesel in the Touran which is roughly a similar size why cant Fiat fit the 2.0 mjet.Even the Multipla was blessed with the 1.9mjet.One step forwards and three back.

Re: 500l diesel

probably because of the target market, they are aiming at mums for the school run so they wouldn't need a bigger engine..
how about a used bravo, they go for cheap now

just been on fiat uk site and it don't look like they have any cars with a big engine any more?

Multipla? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2011-Fiat-...-/160961316891

Re: 500l diesel

Thought about a Bravo,i dont know. Was hoping we,d see a fiat version of the freemont but with the new Vm-Fiat 3.0litre v6 diesel fitted.I dont think so now though.Im going to find someone to do a twin turbo conversion on the croma and spend the money on that instead.Do what Fiat should have done.

Buy a Bravo 2.0mjt. It must be fast almost like your Croma. Or keep Croma. I think its a great car.

Re: 500l diesel

There will be a 1.6 105hp Diesel - Works really well in Guilietta and Bravo, shouldn't have thought the weight difference is huge between the two cars.

Re: 500l diesel

Yes, people say that 1.6 having performance like it has 15-20 BHP more. But its not even close to Croma 2.4. And that is problem for Buster.

Re: 500l diesel

Sadly the croma is not as good as you think it should be.They are a genuine 200hp engine, mine is a tad more due to the steinbauer p box.I seen 240 odd on the rolling road.385lbs ft torque too. They are severly hampered with a top gear ratio that equates to 60mph at 1200rpm.When towing a van its a ball bag.It will spot a hill from 10 mile away and drop down the box which severly anoys me especially considering the size of the engine. All this i think is down to a gearbox that can only cope with 350lbs ft of torque-the assin.I regulary feel the throttle pedal being "taken away from me in top" presumably the torque limiter in the box comming in to play.
I still think my old 140 hp jtd stilo would have licked it after it had been chipped,if only some one had made a solid flywheel for her at the time. This is one reason why i would have liked the L with the 2.0 litre in it and a manual box.Why not put it as an option, cant get me head round them at times.
Its not a small car even.more like the size of a sharan.for people like me a 2.0litre is the norm.Shame because i love it.

Re: 500l diesel

I visit Fiat delare today and I take a look on 500l. It is really huge! Everyone said it is, but until I see it, I didnt think is so huge. Materials for me ok, plenty of space. I like it. Agree that engines are, well They should put 2.0 140BHP in it, and no problem. Engine they have, so I dont see any problem. But car is

Re: 500l diesel

Do you think there's going to be an ( aftermarket) option of Supercharging it ( like the 4x4 panda's),

that way you'll still get half-decent emissions ( tax) numbers from the 500L,

or is it all too tightly packed under the bonnet ?,

Didn't think to "pop-the-hood" in the showroom,

Charlie

Re: 500l diesel

I have to agree with some above, this car is HUGE, I think my 500 will fit in the boot . Looks OK but there are better looking cars out there that do the same job better IMO.

I quite likes it.. To me it seems to fit in the range as "the new Multipla"

Re: 500l diesel

I like it too, but I'll be interested to see how well it converts to RHD. Already the gearlever is too low set for me, and the front foot space on the right hand side is very narrow. And if there was space for an Ipod or mobile to sit hidden next to the relevant port it would be a bit cleverer.

It might sell, but the market is still depressed and the new Clio is very pretty. People like pretty. Plus, there is a host on new SUVs on the way... and people like SUVs too
