If we turn the engine off in neutral on my wife’s dualogic 500 the alert sounds and the N flashes in the speedo, the handbook on page 98 says engage 1st or reverse than handbrake and wait for P on display but we can’t get this right.
Any advice please?

I'd suggest that paragraph is a reference to vehicles with a 'conventional' auto trans as opposed to a Dualogic. The US cars have a conventional auto I understand.

The heading of the paragraph would say otherwise.

To the OP, what actually happens when you follow the instructions exactly?

You are right the US cars have a conventional auto with park so they wouldn’t need it to appear on the display as our book suggests
Thanks

The wife's new Mazda, which replaced her 500C, has both a 'P' by the lever and also in the display (plus D,R etc). Wouldn't surprise me if the 500 auto does likewise where the Dualogic displays gear numbers.

An alert sounds and N flashes on display

I had a TwinAir Dualogic for 5 years, it´s a manual gearbox with a robotic clutch and gear operation unit. It has no P - Park, the N is flashing only to warn you that you have turned the engine off and the gearbox is in neutral.
All perfectly normal.
If you park on an incline, put the car in reverse or first, before turning the engine off.

When we first bought the 500c there was confusion for us also. The Manual was unclear and different Dearlers gave different answers.

We decided as above, leave it in neutral unless parked on a hill.

Our reasoning was the car puts the gearbox into neutral when you get back in. This happens before you start the engine and is reliant on stored pressure in the actuator. Seemed to me that this is unnecessary wear.

We’ve had ours of 8 years now and its done over 80,000 miles.

Thank you, very helpful
Our confusion was only caused by the handbooks mention on P on the display and the neutral alert.

Thanks, 80k miles ??
Thank you I think we will ignore the handbook and switch off as you suggest
